Hi All,

The EC is apparently concerned about the costs charged for roaming. They have set up a website that compares various suppliers charges.

It is at http://tinyurl.com/ds8dg

There may be some useful info. there

Hi BillD

Makes a Vodafone look like a pretty expensive peice when abroad, having looked at the first example page of calling out and receiving.

Cheers for the link.

Interesting and useful link - but...............

It doesn't make any mention of international sim cards.

My Lichtenstein card casts 0.35 Euro/minute to and from virtually anywhere in the world with NO charges for incoming calls. OK so I have a Lichtenstein number (you get some strange looks when you give your mobile number out) and it does cost more for people to call you - but it's minimal when you take into account the extortionate charges levied by UK operators. If I'm off abroad I simply change my sim and away we go!
Oh - and another advantage, if using it in the UK it will use whichever service provider has the strongest signal so if you're in an area where, say O2 is weak it will simply switch to using Orange or T-mobile or whoevers signal is strongest. If you travel overseas frequently you should have one.

I probably missed a previous post, but where do you get them from?

I got mine from a phone dealer in Bradford somewhat cheaper but I can't seem to find his link! Good value direct from Riiing anyway. I can vouch for their effectiveness and the Internet top-up works fine.

I read on here somewhere recently that it might be a cheaper option to buy either a sim card or a cheap pay as you go phone when abroad for any length of time. Does anyone know anything about this and how it works etc? We will be away for 6 weeks soon and this might be worth doing for us. Any info on this would be welcome.

Hi Ken,

Sorry if I am a bit thick on this subject but if you have one of these cards does it mean that you have a new 'phone number and that you need to inform everyone of your new number?

If so, as my wife has a mobile as well would it make sense to keep her number for incoming calls and change mine for calling out only?

Apart from calling costs is there any initial charge?

How quick do they respond as we are leaving next Tuesday have you any idea.

Thanks for your help.

hi billd the cards are data only, they do have a number so you can use them for text, using 3g it might be possible to use skype or simular voip.

Perhaps somebody on here has done that?

Olley
