Get rid of all your saucepan lids and replace with a roll of foil.
You can shape your foil around any saucepan and then just chuck it away, no washing up and no heavy lids...

Also when travelling to free up space in the fridge take a box of zippy type plastic bags and decant all your stuff that has been packed in big plastic trays.

Keep a couple of Icepacks in the freezer and if your not on hook-up trying to save precious gas, put them in the fridge part overnight until your ready to drive next day, keeps most things cool.

Milk - big problem, start taking black coffee and and fruity teas much better for you and less stinky the off milk...

Until I had my fridge serviced as it wasn't working on gas, I used a couple of freezer packs plus a 2pint bottle of frozen milk in the ice box. It lasted the 3 days away but I also took a couple of the "instant" ice packs just in case.
At least it conserves the gas if only going for a few days.

For those of us that are environmentaly concious, Ali foil can take hundreds of years if not more, depending who you believe... some articles recon thousands of years to degrade.

Im not an eco warrier or tree hugger at all just thought I would add this as it lets you decide....

Cheers

Yes that was my first thought too. Like you not a tree hugger but would not do it for that reason, Alan.

Can reuse foil a lot don't need to throw away each bit every time.

Aluminium is linked to Alzheimers and as such I try to reduce my use of aluminium containing products as much as I can.

I threw out my aluminum pots and pans and now use stainless steel, I avoid deodorants and toothpastes which contain aluminium, etc etc.

Would rather carry the weight of my 3 lids (not very heavy and re-wash them) along with the other dishes from the meal rather than use foil and chuck away each (or nearly every time) I use a pan. I am not a tree hugger but have come to think carefully about waste over the last few years. We have got our rubbish (ie non-recyclable, non-compostable) down to 18 litres max/ 2 weeks. I would hate to think how much extra waste we would generate if we followed OP's suggestion. Sorry, not for me!

Hi

I use my lids and to hell with the weight and space etc.

However, foil is good on travelling days. For example, home made shepherd's pie made before we set off in a foil tray. Saves washing up a large stone baking tray. The foil tray can be reused a couple of times and then recycled - at Tesco if possible - where the marvellous machine will give you a ClubCard point for it.
