What a shame so much rubbish is talked about regarding Kipor generators, most of it spread by people who dont understand them and who can not (or will not) supply parts to repair them.
Kipor generators do not have a 50 hour life expectancy. They only suffer poor starting if you leave the carbs full of fuel which goes stale, blocks the carb and then leads to poor starting.
TOP TIP NUMBER 1..... Over winter drain the carburettor float bowl. Make sure the fuel tap is OFF and the cap vent is SHUT. next year the machine will start with very little trouble. Try it you will be surprised.

Hi people - I've been reading this thread and felt it was a good place to ask my question. I bought a Kiport IG2000 last April and ran it for about 30 hours only during the year before storing it over winter. I got it out the other day and it started 2nd pull but when I switched it to the Run position, it seemed to be on full throttle and would not settle to a slow idle. So I switched it off and tried to start it again without success. I left it a while, but still would not start, so I took the carb off and found that the throttle seemed to be fully open. I moved it to the closed position, put it back together and it started on Choke first pull. I waited a little while, then changed to the Run position and again it revved it's head off and would not idle. So I assume the throttle is sticking but wondered if you had any views ?

When I contacted the retailer, KMS Direct, they just said they only provide a warranty for 6 months and said it needed a service. I did not think this was a helpful response but that is all the Sale of Goods act states they need to offer - shame - I thought it was a year.

Richieb - you seem very knowledgable on this topic - any suggestions for me ?

thanks for any advice

MG

The machine is supposed to start from full throttle and then as the control board powers up it should adjust to the required position for tick over or producing the required power.
Question No1 is the most important question - does it still produce any power? Worryingly it does sound as though the inverter module has failed if this happens there is no power and no output to control the throttle hence the flat out running. If there is power then a slight chance the stepper motor on the carburettor has failed but things look a little grim.

Thanks for such a quick response RichieB. The generator is producing power as it was able to charge my motorhome and power up the TV and lights. Is the stepper motor for the carb something I can remove/check/replace ? I was going to remove the carb, strip the jets and give them a good clean then re-fit and run with fresh petrol. SHould I do anything else ?

regards

Matthew

A silly one this but .... the smart throttle switch on the front panel. It must be in the ON position. In this position the revs should drop into automatic control. With the switch turned off the revs should rise. does this switch have any affect. if you pop the switch out of the panel then with the wires apart the revs should drop and with the wires touched the revs should rise.

The switch used to work, but now it makes no difference. In my recent attempts I start it in the On position with Choke, then wait a bit then move the lever to the Run position and then it revs like mad. I try the smart throttle switch in the off position and there is no change.

I will have a go at removing the switch and touching the wires as you suggest to see what happens.

I appreciate very much your efforts to help. Thanks, richieB

Matthew
