Hi

I have a LHD 1996 Fiat Ducato Chassis, and needed to get the back end of the exhaust replaced. My local supplier couldn't get the LHD part, but had a Citreon version of a RHD system that would fit. It's quite a big bit of kit, with two boxes and the tailpipe exits at the side of the van.

So for £110.00 inc fitting and VAT and 2 year guarantee, i went for it, the only differance is the exhaust exits caravan door side now instead of drivers side.

The tip of the exhaust is slightly under the side of the van, there was a chrome extension on the old exhaust that took it just beyond the side.

Any thoughts on if the end should protude beyond the side of the van, or other experiences.

I did see the post on the custom SS exhaust system which i thought was terrific value, almost went for it as they quoted me the same.

Cheers to sundial for that

But it was fitting in Leeds, I couldn't get away from work, and the MOT was looming.

No comments on most, but if you need a chrome extension. CAK do them , as do Riverswayleisure.

(My new van might need one)

Hi Dave, I had to do the opposite. I was in Southern Italy when my exhaust failed and the garage where I took it for repair could only get a LHD one, this was fitted OK except that it now comes out on the ( British ) nearside and does not quite clear the body. I tried it for a couple of days but found that too many fumes were getting in to the vehicle so I fitted an extension and that cured it.

Hi RobinHood & Philm

Thanks for the replies; I went through all the disastrous scenarios I could think of. Like what if I had a safari room, and I ran the engine when it was up, but then again the fridge and heater would also vent in to a safari room. But as I don't have a safari room, and the fridge and boiler already rule that out, I thought maybe that’s not really a problem Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I probably will get a chrome tail pipe, as it looks like the fumes would gather under the rear of the van, and it looks nicer with one anyway.

The tail pipe looks a good bit higher up off the ground than the previous job, I have noticed at the shows that the later Hymers and some other MH’s have tail pipes that are really close to the ground, I wonder why, it just looks like a really good way to snag them or break them.

Cheers

Dave

Since you mentioned this to me 2 days ago RR, I have been on a mission Smile

I wandered around looking rather suspicious, as I investigated exhaust systems on LHD motorhomes?

I was actually suprised? Something I have never noticed before, but many almost identical vehiciles have exhausts which exit on opposite sides?

I reckon this could be due to the same senerio you have had, and is a common thing.

Just never noticed it before.

I just need to try and break my addiction to looking at bloody LHD exhausts now.. cus it drove me mad today Shocked

Cheers Wile me old Mate Smile

The only other down side we have just thought of, is that Dougal the Westie lies under the step. When we had our last MH, it also had an exhaust tail pipe nearby and he always came out from under the van with a big black smoky mark on his back.

Guess he'll just have to be Diesel Doug again.

Think logical old man.. Take him to the doggy hairdresser and have him died black.. won't show then Wink

He might get arrested on your next trip to France though, cus he will look nothing like his photo on his doggy passport? Immigrations will have a field day?

I personally think Doug would love the black look too.. least not because the foxes wont see the little blighter coming Laughing

Hi, as you have been discussing LHD exhausts thought I would mention a LHD rear section for pre 2002 ducato has just come on Ebay. Posted by Prioryfiat85 item 4585885325. starting 99p £15 del. This guy has some great bargains for fiat and you could well get this exhaust very cheap and save for when you need it.

Hi Guys
I think it maybe an M O T requirement that the exhaust pipe exit must be at the rear or the offside

Cheers for the info Brambles

Could have saved me a few bob Crying or Very sad

Anyway I'll keep a note of the sellers name as you never know what will be needed next.

Hi china, they have never questioned it the past. I suppose it’s a little antisocial if you have a left hooker, and your exhaust is firing out on to the pedestrian side of the road. All fiats and the related Peugeot and Citroen vans are the same though. Exhaust out the side, so if you have a leftie it’s pavement side.

Cheers

Dave
