Hi
We are in Greece, mainly wild camping and I have just changed the second 5 litre Methanol bottle since new a year or so ago. The Efoy had been in operation for a total of 252 hours and the two bottles cost about £56. The Efoy produces 4amps (at a nominal 12v). You can do your own sums but I think that works out at just over 22p an hour or 5.5p per amp/hour.

This is not cheap, of course and the kit is expensive but the ongoing costs are not that too extravagant for having the luxury of power oof the grid.

I would be interested to know what the kW hour costs when you factor in the cost of the unit, installation, lifespan and then fuel costs.

Hi

You can work that one out yourself! It will depend on whether you pay for installation, or self-fit, how often you use it, and how you use your vehicle.

To help, our Efoy 1200 cost about £3500 including installation by VanBitz and I am hoping it will last 10 years.

I would think the energy costs per KwHour are horrendous, comparitively but the cost is not the important thing for us, though we were quoted £7,500+ for a built in deisel genny, but rather the ability to stay off grid in winter for more than a few days and still feel free to use the computer, satellite TV, heating and so on without driving every day.

This was the most expensive, and last, addition to our kit, after upgraded batteries and Sterling BtoB charger, and we already had an 80 watt solar panel. It is effectively silent and fully automatic and so far we think it is worth it.

P&L, I agree entirely.

Trev, don't be so lazy, it's not hard to work out the EFOY site gives exact fuel consumption figures, Alan.

Fuel price wise that's expensive, mine cost about £32 for a 10 ltr.
and about £23 incl vat for 5 ltrs.

The Efoy cost for a 1200 is about £2600 incl vat
The Efoy cost for a 1600 is about £2950 incl vat.

Yes, twice Trev. The first time was entirely my fault, I used commercial methanol in it because I could not obtain Efoy fuel, which it turns out is much purer. They repaired it free of charge which was very kind of them. I have not had any problem getting Efoy fuel since.

The second time the little pump which lifts the fuel failed. The sent a courier to collect it, repaired it FOC and couriered it back to me. Great service and very nice people to deal with, Alan.
