Yes definitely a complete re-built job - anything else would be pointless.

I'd swap an engine to see what you see overhead.

Lucian, I've just looked through your pictures, the van looks to be in very good condition (externally). The motor does look to be a bit of a mess though, if you can't find a reasonably priced replacement it shouldn't be too much of a problem to repair this one.
Good luck.

hi ...
yes the van is in a good condition, just a bit rust in hidden places and a bit more on the front well house .

but I wander how did this happen... I see there on every piston a strong mark from the valve , so if that valve did;t broke another one will do it . the space between cylinder head and piston was almost 0.
I will make some pictures next time .
probably after few thousands km or miles we have to open cyl.head and change valves or remove the dirt , maybe an additive will do the cleaning job

Hi lucien, how about finding a running scrap/damaged van/truck and trans-planting the engine/gearbox, that 406 has a huge hole in the front and good access inside the van you could fit a more modern power plant?

I will like it , but how I can I bring it here ?
I should try to find one here for spare parts or just replace

Looking at that impact I would expect a lot more damage, camshaft, con rod as already mentioned and possibly other parts we are not seeing and you may not notice inspecting by eye. Even with the engine in bits you may not find cracks.

That impact was almost big enough to completely destroy the engine. If it was mine I would not take the chance on using it again. For sure you need to find what caused it before you even consider reconditioning it.

It would be far better to buy another engine and give it a check over before you fit it, Alan.

yes it;s true.... seems like it was a strong impact ,the piston have a big hole from the valve , need a lot of force to do that thing .
probably the crack went deep in to the engine all over

Hi Lucian,

You have done the right thing by taking the engine out of the van and into your garage.

Now you can take your time during the winter months to overhaul it, and be ready for next summer.

The rest of the vehicle looks in good condition, so it will be worth the effort .

Best of luck.
