The one thing that has not been said so far which is very important I think, that is it is better of our country to buy from a british supplier. It helps maintain jobs for people to spend money on goods and services. It keeps the company in profit for which they pay tax towards the running of the country.

Lets face it anyone who can afford to buy a motorhome new must be reasonable well off and they would have or would have been employed, generally in this country, if their industry was being under mined by european imports, or cheap labour they may not have been able to afford the luxury and pleasure of a motorhome.

I accept that most Motorhome have european engines ect but at least some of the money finds it's way into our economy if supplied through one of the dealers.

The dealers also allow us all to visit their sites and view motorhomes, this helps when choosing something, another loss if we all purchased abroad.

So for me I will spend the bit of money I have spare, supporting business in this country.

Luigi

Hi,
I was chatting to a salesman at a large dealership about this very topic. He said that they are very reluctant to p/ex imported vans because they can only sell them on to other traders . They themselves would not want to sell the m/home because of warranty and "UK Spec" issues. Basically any savings made when first purchased abroad would be more than wiped off if the vehicle was offered in p/ex later. ....food for thought maybe...Haggler

If you want to import you might want to check our site : http://www.mclouis.be/En/index.htm. We are based in Belgium and do some export to the UK.

i bought my last 2 vans abroad because i saved so much money.

companies have to be good not just british before i give them my money.

ruth has the misfortune to have dealt with 2 companies, Urbano & Lowdhams, with whom i have not been impressed. Urbano becaues they were economical with the truth and Lowdhams because of the attitude of their staff and condition of the vehicles.

on my first purchase abroad i saved £4,500 on a £13,000 van in 1998.

on my second purchase abroad i saved £12,000 on a £36,000 van in 2005.

rip off britain - you bet it is.

carthago chic a great choice ruth. hope you have great fun with it.

If I could sell Two Loos for cash then I would head straight for Germany. As it appears unlikely, I am forced to buy from UK which I hope to do during Feb.
