Hi,

For all you satellite users who may not be aware - you will find that ITV stations are now free to air since last week sometime. I assume that this is a permanent move as negotiations with Sky have been going on for some time.

Sky digibox users who do not subscribe to a Sky package will only now need a Sky freesat card to receive Ch4 and Ch5 of all the mainstream channels.
Effectively, this means that if you have a FTA receiver (such as a LIDL job), you will be able to receive all the BBC and ITV main channels.

Also, as from yesterday, 7th November, Sky digibox users will find ITV4 on the Sky EPG at position 120. I haven't checked but assume that this is also FTA.

Thanks Nobby, certainly had missed that one.

By the way has anyone tried to ring Sky recently ( and spoken to a human) in a reasonable time?

Hi Nobby,

We have an Oyster fitted on our MH, as yet we haven't managed to set it up. Can we use the sky box from our home? We have just moved and haven't got sky in the new place yet. Embarassed

Thanks

thanks for the info,
We are in Portugal at the moment on the Algarve but canīt get sky at present even though I have the Oyster and 85cm dish. Did get it in northern Portugal and northern Spain. Do I have to update my Oyster to receive the Itv stations on the oyster receiver?

Slap me if im wrong, but I think you can only recieve the BBC and ITV channels in the UK, something to do with the satellite footprint they are transmitted on.

It's very difficult to get BBC and ITV South of the Alps and South or West of Barcelona unless you've got a really big dish.

Hi Rita,

Snelly is right regarding footprints and you are unlikely to receive Astra 2D in the Algarve with an 85cm. Although it can occasionally happen.

You can however, receive the Astra 2 South beam and get Sky News, CNN, BBC Radio 2 & 4. Gotta dash for my dinner now but if you want instructions, PM me and i'll mail them.

Rita,

Were you still on the Astra 2 North beam in northern Portugal, or had you switched to the South beam? If the latter, then on the Algarve I guess you must be marginal with your dish. If the former, this is how to switch to the South beam:
