this is the status right now (Feb 7th, 08:21 GMT) for my example site Osnabrueck (id 574):
When I look at the "Campsite Review" window the longitude and latitude values are correct and in the correct lines. However when opening the map view the longitude value is sent to Multimap as latitude and vice versa, which moves the site from north-west Germany down to the middle of the Indian Ocean. This is also consistent with the "Edit" window.
Yesterday I have entered a new site and I think that here in the "New Site" window the two coordinates were swapped. But as this site has not passed review yet I cannot tell for sure.
My suggestion: Leave the field labels in Edit and Review as they are, make the New Entry window consistent if needed and fix the transmission to Multimap.
Best Regards,
Gerhard

ok i can definately see that on your example the lats and longs are the wrong way around
now i just need to confirm that is ok i.e. does everyone concur with that ?
as some people including myself are confused as to which is latittude and which is longitude and i think that some entries have actually been entered the wrong way around as well which confuses matters even more
Olley,
I may not be seeing the problem I guess.
Try putting 55N 358 E into your mapper and see if it gives you a waypoint in the Midlands somewhere.
If it does then any Westerly long just needs converting to 360 minus (westerly longitude) and then input as the now very big figure.
The problem is always going to be there as you may get lat/longs from other sources as time goes by. For example I see a time coming when it will be a feature of every magazine and web article that the lart/long will be given as a matter of routine. (It's already starting to happen).

OK, feeling guilty on a number of counts now, flippant remarks, reluctance to enter campsites in past because Lat/Long irritated, etc., etc.
As a radio-orienteer, orienteer, geocacher, GPS user since they were bricks, and lover of maps, nuke, once you have sorted out getting it right from now on, I'll go back editing existing Lat/Longs in database if necessary for consistency.
Having just looked, I agree with Gerhard's analysis. Lats and Longs are fed to Multimap the wrong way around. But the entry form for new sites also needs tweaking. Having NSEW as drop-downs for both Lat and Long is a potential source of confusion, as is allowing OSGB NGRs with no format pre-defined. And is this just text, or can it drive location without Lat/Long entered? If it can, what if they clash, etc. etc? I guess for layperson's entry, avoiding negative longitudes is best by allowing E & W, though I'm more comfortable with +/- myself.

Ni nuke it all seems to work fine for sites east or more than -001 west however I can not make it work for loveders farm which is 0:54:06w 50:50:43n I have played about with the format but either end up in southampton or in the channel.
Nobby multimap only does + or - from zero, with your experience its easy, for me, a nightmare

I visited the 'few' sites I have placed on the data base one being Camping Javea in Spain.
Like you say the mapping system is now MultiMap bad news is it shows Camping Javea as being in Kenya with the following Map Information:
Location: Kenya
X: 4317500m
Y: 18900m
Lat:0:10:16N (0.171)
Lon:38:47:05E (38.7846)
Web Address:

Now if I run MultiMap again to get Camping Javeas location I get these details:
Location: Spain
X:19000m
Y:4664100m
Lat:38:47:05N (38.7846)
Lon:0:10:15E (0.1707)

The above are identical to those I placed in the MHF data base for that site so what is causing them to change???
JUST NOTICED AFTER HITTING THE SUBMIT BUTTON.
The Lats & Longs are the wrong way around swopped them Camping Javea in correct location. but for Europe isn't the BIG number suppose to be the Latitude????

I think until this whole issue is sorted, I will leave my sites as is.
We need a consistant and foolproof entry system that people can easly understand, this ad hoc tinkering is not solving the problem and may in fact be making it worse.
Maybe we should rethink the whole entry system, perhaps someone can come up with some ideas.
