After trawling through the massive amount of entries I can not find out any thing relating to the display of HGV towing warning plates.

It was bought to my attention by the boys in blue that as my van was over 3500Kgs and I was using a A frame towing a car, in addition to the number plate of the towing vehicle and 2 red triangles I should be displaying the newest HGV towing a trailer plate (the oblong red back ground with reflective yellow stripes). I was let off with a warning and advised to get one ASAP, I was also told if I was on the continent they view this omission seriously. Any way I now have one displayed through the rear window.

Has any one else come up against this problem, or did I just happen to be in the wrong place at the right time, or viceversa.

Although my van is a private HGV and is exempt a lot of the rules, but not to towing a trailer.
Regards to all.

Repeat entry any more inputs please

Hi Richard thanks for that, is one in the middle of the rear window sufficent or should there be one on each extremity of towed vehicle?

Hi Guzzijim

From what I am led to believe as long as the plate is displayed that was the only requirement. The blue boy said nothing about having 2 plates only it was to be visible. To my mind, my tow car isn't wide enough to have one of the shop sold lengths let alone 2 I had to chop about 12" off each end.
Kind regards
