just got back from blackpool after dropping our son off at liverpool university and we had thought we could find a spot to park up for the night as we knew we would be getting there very late no way could we park anywhere .all the places restricted you to not sleeping in your van or no campervans full stop.as you all know at 17 ft long you need a car park with long enough bays to accomodate us there was only one car park by the tower [behind and back a bit]and that was it but one other thing was the dogs mess everywhere now i love dogs but not the s\\\t that goes with then on walkabouts blackpool council does not bother at all they just leave it there .still on the plus side we visited southport on the way back and formby as well .nice places they were worth a detour off the m6 follow preston then southport all in all from merthyr tydfil where i live we done 534 miles in our transit ci and thank god no problems at all the camping gods were looking after us i think anyway thats it job done i have had my moan and feel better for it chat soon bye..welsh andrew

The English Tourist Board once questioned me in a random phone poll about holidaying in the UK. I told them that until England/Britain got its' act together with regard to actually [u:0a4ca35509]welcoming[/u:0a4ca35509] visitors, we would continue to holiday in Europe. I explained how, as a motorcaravanner, we were hounded out of whole areas because of petty local council bureacracy - nowhere to park, nowhere to easily 'overnight', treated as pariahs just because we don't use the local B&Bs (we DO use pubs/restaurants/cafes/supermarkets/local shops, etc), no facilities provided for our needs, etc. This was some years ago, but I have no reason to believe the situation has changed much. MMM is [u:0a4ca35509]still[/u:0a4ca35509] fighting the good fight with their height barrier campaign (that's been running for at least fifteen years!). Your Blackpool experience bears this out. How about a moaning letter to the local council that treated you shabbily?

Keep smiling!

Great idea Barry and Sue,

I've just written to the English tourist board complaining about the lack of facilities and the treatment we get. We deserve better, we pay road tax, council tax, income tax etc , it's OUR country and we get treated no better than spongers, made unwelcome ..it'd time we all spoke up and demanded better facilities.
I suggest we all write to our MPs demanding that discrimination against motorcaravans is made illegal, that carpark height barriers are removed and ovenight stopping facilities are provided.
Too much to ask? I don't think so, maybe this site could start a campaign ..what do you think ?

You'll certainly get my vote, although for what it's worth in this country I never bother anyway.

Recently went for a drive to the North coast towns of Portrush and Portstewart, ended up parking beside rubbish skips and recycling banks which the local holiday home fraternity use.

You've guessed it, one of the nicest cliff drives with numerous small car parks, totally ruined by height barriers thanks to Coleraine Council.

Well done, Jim! At least you're doing something about it. Full marks.

Blackpool, generally speaking avoid in mhome, except in off season, just parking short term is a problem.
only interested in taking money unfortunately
but don't write off the rest of that coast
try fleetwood, clevelys and bispham to the north
and st annes and lytham to the south [and fairhaven lake]
fleetwood is especially good for mhomes

as you say southport is also a good spot

Cool

I'm crossing Larne/Fleetwood in a couple of months time. Would appreciate any info for nice quiet spot to park up for 3 - 4 hours after long drive to/from Dover.

Any tips on quickest way to M6 ?

M6 j32 onto the M65 > Blackpool.
M5 j3 North on A585 and follow signs to Fleetwood.
It may be possible to park at Ferry, else follow prom round towards Cleveleys; street parking along a lengthy stretch overlooking sea /
never tried it but there are houses along 1 side only and it is quiet particularly if you go further away.

have fun
