I am thinking of removing some of the blocks off the front page to increase access times for those of us on slower speed connections.

The bits i have earmarked for removal at present are as follows:-

SIte Messenger
Last 10 Classifieds Ads
Top 10 MH Searches
and maybe the MH News as that does slow the site down a little as well

comments ne1 for and against ?

I wouldn’t miss the site messenger as I’ve set my preferences to contact me via email of any messages. However there’s an awful lot of people who haven’t even filled in their profiles let alone their preferences.

Alternately, perhaps it does already, alert the person logging on that they have ‘personal messages’ waiting for them with instructions on how to retrieve them. The reason I added ‘instructions’ is that I’ve had eventual replies off people who stumbled on a link to show they had a PM waiting for them.

I must say the changes you have already implemented are looking good Very Happy

I am happy for all the blocks you suggested to be removed. I have never used any of them, and I do find the site a bit slow. Go for it.

good idea Steve, I have modified every user on the site to have a popup message displayed on the screen when a new PM is waiting for them and a link to their inbox.

they will all also get an email to tell them they have a PM waiting for them on the site and a link to click to go direct to their inboxes Smile

It would be a good idea to remove all of those things you suggest, anything to speed it up as it really can be dreadfully slow somedays.

We're all up for any simplification, and wouldn't miss the features you suggest loosing - go for it!

Good Idea

I don't find it slow but a bit of extra speed is always welcome !
