It's only if you have the multiroom package that you have to permanently have both sky digiboxes connected to a phone line. If you only have 1 digibox then after 12 months you are not obliged to stay connected. If you are on the multi room package and you decide to unplug both or either of the 2 digboxes you will find that Sky, after several warning letters, will then charge you full price for the second box as opposed to the £10 extra. We had the multi room package and yet never connected the 2nd box to a phone line and after a few months of Sky sending us reminders to connect the 2nd box to our phone line and us stupidly ignoring them, we discovered that we were being charged the hefty sum of £84 per month!! We cancelled it immediately I hasten to add! However, now that we have Sky+ in the motorhome we have reinstated the multi room package otherwise we would not be able to use all the Sky+ recording and live pause functions etc, we ditry our Sky+ card from home but we could not get all channels we subscribe to, but worst of all was not being able to use the recording and live pause functions properly. So, we had no option but to take out a 2nd subscription under the multi room contract. I know we could have taken the Sky+ digibox from home along with the viewing card but that would have meant unplugging the digibox every time we went away and to be honest we really did not want to do this as behind our heavy TV (which hubby's back really could not handle moving) is a nightmare of cables, leads and scarts and we prefer to leave them as they are to be honest with you. It's like spaghetti junction behind there I can tell you lol Very Happy (Scary stuff!)

I could kick myself now though after reading some of your replies as I could have done what some of you do and that is get the card from home paired up to the 2nd box every time we go away but I was told by Sky, when I rang them recently to enquire about this that they could not do that. I was also told on another forum that if you did this enough times Sky would cotton on and clamp down on you, hence the reason we opted for the multi room deal. Had I known I would have saved myself the £10 per month extra that we pay for the privilege and all the hassle of having to keep the 2nd digibox box connected to our phone line. I would much preferred to have just left the 2nd digibox connected up in the van at all times and just rang Sky every time we went away to get the card paired up.

I would be interested to know from those of you that ring Sky to have their viewing cards paired up to another machine if you go away a lot or do you just go away now and again? The reason I would like to know this is, just in case Sky only realise what you are doing if you do it regularly and are unaware if you only do this once in a while? We ourselves go away as much as we can, so once I know the answer I may be tempted to cancel the multi room package and save myself some time and money!

When calling Sky the operator answering your call may not be aware of the facilty you are requesting. I just wanted to buy my Freesat card for £20 and they said that such an item did not exist and certainly NOT available from Sky. Only after quoting their web page and content and the operator going asking a supervisor did they accept I was correct.
So for a 1 off payment of £20 a digibox of ebay for £35 I have all the tv I want.

Before you call make sure of your facts and insist they speak to someone who knows about what you want.

I think it is only the with the Sky + setup that Sky are bothered about having both boxes connected at all times to the same telephone line. This is to stop people sharing and having one box in one house and the other box somewhere else.

I am in the process of reporting Sky to the Ofcom for restrictive trading,

(the same as mobile phones, when they used to be locked to one operator is deamed as illegal and surely this will be the same, i will keep people informed as i get news

Very Happy

Cas

Restrictive trading?

You can move your card between single boxes. It means a call to the call centre though, it is not a preferred option as the agreement if for use at your home address. One of the reasons for this is regionalisation and the advertising revenue that relies upon this information.

The additonal box deal is a cut prices deal (£10 for £42 of viewing). One of the reasons OnDigital went to the wall was they did not enforce a call back option on their boxes. As the encryption system was poor and was cracked they could not protect their revenue.

Hoping to buy a 2nd digi-box for the 'van but unsure as to the procedure need to follow so we can use the Sky card we have at home in both digi-boxes. Can anybody suggest the easiest way to do this?

Yes, you can use the card in other digiboxes. If you have subscription film and sports channels they will not work in the second box - but all the free to view and general entertainment channels will be ok.

Hi,
I'm afraid that if you have Sky+ with the second room addition i.e. the £10 mirror contract, part of that contract is that they be kept permanently attached to the phone line, there is no 12 month time limit.

We went to France last year for six weeks took our Sky box with us and just used it as we would normally do at home. Anyway to save all the hassle of unplugging all those cables have now bought a secondhand skybox on e-bay which we have sited permanently in M/h and will just take our viewing card with us. I agree with comments about greedy sky, so i would suggest you just do your own thing. You can't beat watching CORRIE in 90 odd degrees

Hi there
i have sky plus and a second box and it has been away with me nearly every other week for the last 2 years had a few letters at first but always plugged it back in when returned home, i have even ordered a sports event and watched it while i was away. If you check the back of MMM are practical MH you will see that they advertise sky for MH and you pay a one of fee of around £25 because you are not connected to the phone. If you have been with sky more then 12 months cancel your contract then open another one in your parterners name for the MH and just connect it in at home like your old one without the phone line.
