haha... reminds me of a couple of years ago when the Spanish changed to Euros (we were in Gran Canaria at the time). When we got back home we had around 25 quids worth of euros left. Around that time, Marks 'n' Sparks ran an article in our local rag boasting that they accepted euros. So off I went with some and bought a couple of butties, cakes and a couple of drinks. Got to the till and the lady ran everything through the till and said "eight pounds sixty three pence please". I gave here enough euros to cover that and she looked at me with a puzzled look. I informed her about the article M&S put in our local paper and the realisation dawned on her face. Some how I wished I hadn't bothered cos I spent the next fifteen minutes up at the customer sevices desk getting my change sorted out.

SO - I take it from that I can spend French euros in spain then? only a bank in Lyon last year refused them and I had to trapse round the city for half a day to find a bank that would change them!

that bank needs their arse kicking. Why change in the bank? The whole point is that the notes / coins can be used all over the euro zone. They are also becoming acceptable in areas just over the borders - in switzerland (geneva) the take euros without any query.
It's fun collecting the coins - from across the issuing countries, just shows how much people travel across europe.
we'll join eventually when people realise the benefits & stop beleiving the propoganda put out by foreign (non-european!) owned newspapers.
