We're thinking of visiting Turkey this summer. Any good tips out there re overnighting at filling stations, infrastructure, things to do, see and avoid? The rough idea is to do the Istanbul-Ankara-Antalya route, with several detours. The big question, of course, is whether Turkey is motorhome-friendly? Thanks in advance Smile

Turkey is a wonderful place to visit. Did it a few times in the early 90's in an old Leyland bus with 12 young people from a Youth Club. Normally spent 5/6 weeks arrived from different directions but the trip most people enjoyed was through the Corinth Canal.

Always made welcome, plenty of good campsites, local food was great. No problem in inspecting the Kitchen in local restaurants, driving was good. Plenty to see the amphitheater at Ephesus is worth a visit as is Pamukkale but the water has dried up I think.

Hope you have a good time. It is certainly on my list of places to re-visit.

Yes, Don should be home in a couple of weeks. Andy on the Yahoo MH-list is another to ask as he's been out there recently. My leisure experience is limited to Istanbul and the Aegean coast, with some other travelling around the SE, Syrian border, etc. I wouldn't hang around Ankara for long unless you find Government and concrete captivating Smile

I love eating with the locals in Turkey. Fabulous food, quick service and great value.

Alison still perceives a "pushiness/ in-your-face" experience, which, much to my regret, she doesn't like, despite me explaining several times about the culture.

Roll on Turkey in the EU as far as I'm concerned, though I accept this seems to ruffle the feathers of some.
