We are travelling abroad in our Elddis Autostratus for the first time in September. We are taking the Eurotunnel and were wondering if anyone can recommend a site near Calais for us to spend our last night before returning. We also have a cocker spaniel that will need to visit a vet to get his passport stamped etc before we return. Can anyone advise the easiest way to do this?

For info like this try the search feature, I found these links using the words ...vet france... and put a blob in the "search for all terms" box.

A useful campsite, 45 minutes from Calais and one which we use frequently for our last night in France is:-

We have no dog but we know that Gaby, the site owner is very happy to arrange an appointment for dogs to visit the local vet.
Being only about 2 km from the local Auchan it's ideal for all tha last minute shopping before returning to the UK.

Many of us use it and we met RodMD there only 10 days ago who was using the local vet's services for their dog.

They do everything for you at a fee of course, but they do supply you with the address of the vet, map and how to get there and the time of all appointments.

Hi

On other trips with our dog, we've stayed at Bleriot-Plage Municipal campsite and used a vet in Calais who speaks no English but who is lovely and who is also recommended by the Chunnel pet checkers. Easy to get to Chunnel from the site, vet is off the motorway so also fairly simple. Will send you further details if you'd like.

At the start of this month, we stayed at Chateau du Gandspette in Eperlecques which we loved. One of the sites recommended by MHF: can send you details if you'd like.

Vet we used was Jean Paulus, 21 rue Bleue Maison: 5 minutes from the site, just by Champion supermarket. Speaks reasonable English as does his wife. Opened specially for us on 1 May even though it's a French bank holiday (which I'd forgotten), knew exactly how to do the paperwork, dead easy. E-mail:

Warning: first time we went, I used petsaway. Cost more than it does if you find your own vet, made our dog yelp which he isn't prone to do, vet didn't bother to tell us that the rest of our paperwork was not complete so we still had to go to the vet recommended by the chunnel to finish the process off. Do it yourself if possible.

Enjoy!

Hi this will shortly be our 3rd trip with Tara. We stay at the campsite in Guines La Bien Assise, about 5 miles inland from Calais, very nice site. We use the vets in Ardres approx 4 miles away Tel 03 21 35 40 03 very good about £20. Dont forget the 24 hr window!
