Hi....I am thinking about purchasing a used Eldiss Autostratus...and as the weight of the vehicle apears to be over 3.5 tons the AA recovery service say they will not cover me as it is over their limit....so my question is what do you guys and gals do for breakdown recovery etc...

I am sure you will come up with something

yeah thats who we got ours with - our van is not that big but it is twenty

however you do need to be members which adds a bit to cost

you can add additional vehicles for not too much though

Have a look though some other postings.

You can get AA Cover for your van thrown in if you insure through Safeguard

I've been a member of the AA for twenty years now and when I asked them if they would cover my van, which is basically a standard LWB Fiat Ducatto, the lady thought that the size would be just outside their limit for recovery (which is 18' long or 5.48M in new money). I've been told by Glossop Caravans that my new van is covered anyway by some deal between Adria and Fiat but I'm still waiting for confirmation of this. Even though it's a new van it's still a possibilty that it can break down and at the moment, if the AA can't fix the problem at the roadside I'm effectively up the creak without a paddle.

I think the Safeguard scheme may be commercial division, not sure but the RAC are the same but if you are in C&CC and in RAC via club scheme you are covered by normal service. I think they subcontract that work to garages/recovery services

Well I found what I thought was the best deal for me and that was through Comfort Ins with the RAC breakdown, it is linked with the commercial side considering the length and weight of the camper..I think what did it was the manner in which they helped me on the phone, very nice to deal with, lets hope i dont have to use them!!

Thanks for the assistance, great site by the way..and loadsa questions coming up!! Laughing
