Hi all,

We're heading from Rosslare to Cherbourg and on to the Alps for the Tour de France. We arrive in Cherbourg on Tuesday morning and aim to be in Bourg d'Oisans by Friday evening.

Given that we've 3 active children aged 9, 6 & 2, and wish to stay at a campsite each night, has any one any suggestions on our route/itinerary/campsites? we haven't sailed into Cherbourg before as we usually go landbridge through Dover.

That's close to 600 miles and I suspect the kids will get more out of a rope tied to a tree on a campsite than the scenary and splendid architecture etc etc they will witness on the way down.

Tuesday, beach plus local campsite.

Wednesday, beach in the morning and a haul to Camping Campix in the afternoon. http://www.campingcampix.com/camping_eng.htm

Thursday Parc Asterix

Friday, early start as you don't want to be too close to Lyon later friday afternoon.

Saturday open the door and let em run free Wink

Hopefully other suggestions will follow

Have fun!

Thanks Oldskool.

Haven't heard too much about Asterix. Went to Eurodisney (as it was called then) on our motorhome honeymoon in 1993 and 10 years later with two rugrats who appeared in the intervening years.

I think we might push on to Camping Campix on the Tuesday night. The roads around Lyon are not fun to drive if you're tired, so another night's stop on Thursday night within 3 hours of Bourg d'Oisans might be a good idea. What do you think?

A decent bottle of burgundy would be nice to make up for missing out on the beach Sad

Possibly here?

That looks just the spot.

And if the race is still undecided after the Alps, the campsite could be visited again for the Macon and time trial stages... (Don't tell the wife!)
