Razz This maybe a stupid question but is there a list of parking places for motorhomes or would a local tourist information office be the answer, I am mainly thinking of the occasional shopping trip, as you can imagine I am a newbie and enjoying it! Question

welcome to the site and motorhoming mr kelly32.

Parking the beast can be a bit if a nuisance, especially in the uk. what with height barriers and negative vibes from councils
but there is an increasing campaign to improve the situation - see other threads / links on here
see entries under 'Motorhome Friendly Parking'

MMM magazine have over a period been running a Height Barrier not sure how far they have managed to go!

But where you are there should be plenty of options!??!

for shopping, P+R usually have access somehow, most supermarkets are happy to see us, and Raiway station parking altho tight is usually ok [where they exist that is!]

Cool

Look out for supermarkets, and then use two spaces in a line out of the way.
If in doubt ASK.
Recently at Chedder Gorge the parking attendent opened up the Coach area for us.

Hi Moncayomike, hope you enjoyed your visit to Cheddar Gorge, we are hoping to pay it a visit quite soon so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, WE BEG YOU, tell us where the carpark is that had the obliging parking attendant? Does anyone know if the carpark at Wookey Hole caves is m-h friendly too?

Motorhome drivers do it with a wave and a smile

seem to always go to big supermarkets have no trouble parking 2 bays out of the way and if we run out of essentials we tend to use pedal power no problems parking then always do a big shop before your journey starts.

Driving thro Windermere and especially Ambleside is bad enough in a Smart car I think much less a Kontiki!
We downsized from our 1st van - great on site - because it wasn't that practical on the sort of country lanes - single track stuff that we generally find ourselves on. Everything in M/homing is about compromise, and you do get used to it, just a matter of taking it easy, taking your time and remembering to let others through and be polite - even if they're not! it's their blood pressure that'll suffer not yours! Razz
Couple of months down the line you'll wonder why you were bothered about it!
