We are going to Europe for the winter and would like to spend a couple of weeks with friends in or near La Rochelle. We have a 34' American RV.
Have you any advise on sites in the area.

Hi Caz,

There is a municipal campsite that is open all year on the western outskirts called 'camping port neuf' - we stayed a night there back in 2003, it was a bit scruffy but cheap, so might suit your out of season requirements.
There is also a nice site (camping le soleil) on the road from the city centre to port minimies with an aire opposite (no overnite parking at the aire) but I don't think its open all year.

Another possibility if you're self sufficient would be to use the m/home parking area at port minimies and use the aire mentioned opposite camping le soleil for your 'ablutions', check out the campingcar-infos website search page for this area

and pay particular attention to the 'aires de service' entries and also the 'aires de stationement' entries, theres quite a few informal parking places to overnight around the town.

pete.

for Parking Relais ( = Park and Ride) Jean Moulin at La Rochelle. there is a MH service point that might be useful. Plenty of overnighting space and free bus to town - and bike hire.

stopped last summer in main car park center of la rochelle top of the central park near the zoo and swimming pool about 30 vans on site though not an offical aire like most of france if you dont take the mick you can do almost anything as long as your out of season [july / august]
your 34 footer would fit at the side facing the park as we were, no problem public loo's and drain points tap etc all provided, enjoy :
