Good Day All

Do any of our knowledgeable IT members (or any one!) know why suddenly when I click on I Explorer instead of BTYahoo page I get a message from
http:// accountbox.com telling me I have spy ware on my computer!

I have done full sweep with AVG "No Virus" ditto with Ad Aware. With Spybot
isolated 3 items and again 6 today none of them remotely similar to account box .I "fixed" them and the offending accbox disa peared yesterday but not today. The offending accbox offers to let me down load a program to clean out said spyware but I daren't try it!

When i use my "Mozzilla" browser all is normal!

Any suggestions please here or by PM

Ken...........with Wanderwagon3

Hi Ken

I don't run windows but you could try clearing out all the cookies and saved IE files.

Hi

I think your "Home page" has been hijacked by the rogue website....

Can you still navigate to other websites? If so then do this:

Open Internet Explorer, go to your BT Web site, at the top of the browser window click on "Tools" > "Internet Options" > under the "General" tab you will see the web site that is allocated to be your "Home" page. Click on " Use Current" that will reset it to the BT page.

Mike

I've just searched this beast via yahoo

If you go on it you get a dialogue box asking do you want to make accountbox.com your homepage, if you click on no it ignores you and the dialogue box remains, if you try to close the page down using the X in the top right hand corner noting happens and it is still there. No response when left clicking on the box in the taskbar either.

I had to reboot to shift it...Very naughty Mad

Hi Gillian and John

He has it already read the first post in the thread.

As for Firefox it has its own problems:

Maybe they are fixed by now but its not all plain sailing for users.

The problems reported on Firefox 1.5.0.6 (latest) are all less than IE6 and below.

IE7 seems better than its predecessors upto now but then its not been finally released so the hackers havnt wasted any time on it yet

If any of you are IE fans and havnt yet seen IE7 it has some of Firefoxes features but MSoft havnt managed to bring it all the way up yet - worth downloading though.

THANKS to all the above! Fingers crossed as a result of the distillation of the above words of help it would appear all is well again.

Maybe better than well as I have been prompted to update both my Dial Up settings and also have Mozzilla updated!

Thanks again
