Don't have a motorhome at present but am looking for one to start and then if used/enjoyed go on.

Will spend up to £20K and am imprssed by the all in one types e.g. Hymer - see I know nothing and don't even know what the type is called. Similarly I have seen a Pilote and like the configuration.

Use is for me and partner mainly in UK and Ireland + kids and grankids from time to time.

We are in our 50's and living in Shropshirer BTW.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers for now

Alan

Hi alanmoss (again!)

The all in one types are called 'a' class motorhomes in this country and 'integrals' abroad (Germany i think). A class Hymers and pilotes are all excellent vans as far as i'm aware, there are many different layouts for each marque, so only you can decide which one is best for you. If you are taking the gk's along then i suppose a 4 berth is pretty much essential for you unless you plan to put them in a tent outside(!) then a 2 berth would be okay. Have a look at the many posts on this forum and you'll get loads of ideas. Also, the search facility is handy too.

pete.

Alan - welcome to the site and motorhoming,
Some of the links down the left hand side may be of interest to you,
Motorhome FAQs will explain different types f'rinstance
Also suggest you check out dealers and shows, and decide how big a vehicle you will be comfortable with for driving and parking.
and remember, just 'cos a 'van has 6 berths - doesn't mean it can carry 5 passengers n driver, or even all their tackle.
So, enjoy exploring all the options - that's often part of the fun Very Happy

Cool

Welcome Alan, I'd agree about 6 berths does not equal 6 and baggage to travel I would also agree that a show is a great opportunity to see lots of choices and possibly strike a bargain (but don't get carried away).

I'd suggest you also think seriously about how often you will have the g/kids with you you won't want a huge unit 50 weeks a year to allow you 2 weeks - better to be squished a little for the 2 weeks and get just right for the 50. That said - only you will know whether you can manage in a little unit or not.

All the best and have fun!

Hello again Alan,

We took about a year from looking to buying our Avantgarde 200. Then another three months for delivery. I've known people to take years but that can be fun if not confusing as I am sure you will change your mind several times.

twooks made an important point and you will come across it over and over again. Just because it sleeps 6 (or 4 for that matter) it doesn't mean it can carry 6 (or 4) and all the junk (sorry gear) that goes with them!

Rolling Eyes

We are now thinking of a replacement and expect to change the '200 next year some time. Potential 'vans change by the week!

Maverick
