Hi All
How ya doin?
Just purchased my first motorhome - Talbot Express- well chuffed.
Its a 2.5 diesel LWB, but it is a bit heavy on the steering, I am considering fitting power steering if it is possible.
Does anybody have any knowledge of this or any advice.
Cheers

Hi Mark and welcome to the site.
I think I've seen ads for power steering conversions - someone here will have the answer for you. In the past I've had a Bedford TK and a LWB Land Rover both without power steering - does wonders for the arm muscles, not to mention the huffing and puffing whilst trying to park! If those are anything to go by I'm sure it would make a difference.
Enjoy your new motorhome Very Happy we've certainly enjoyed ours.

There is this company :

SVO (Calne) Ltd

01249 815141

Quoted me £1850 + VAT but will give a 7.5% discount if you quote ref no from email they send you when making enquiry.

I didn't have the work done as I bought a new van.

Seemed quite a lot, and have noticed a few near scrappers on Ebay that you could get for a lot less than this, Whip off the power steering and sell on

Hi Sparky (Mark)

Mine's the same but I thought over £2K is out of the question even tho' it currently "does wonders for the arm muscles, not to mention the huffing and puffing whilst trying to park! " as Crissy says.

It's an economic thing; hopefully by the time I can't pull it round anymore I'll be trading it for one with power steering.

Sparky,

Might be worth checking the strut thrust bearings first - One of mine had siezed and the other was pretty rusty all on a 1999 van... Despite power steering, replacing them made it quite a bit lighter.

It's a half day DIY job (you'll need axle stands and a spring copmressor, but cheap enough online). Parts were all of £18!

I am to engineering as Bush is to the Nobel Peace Prize but I have a D reg audio 80 which I brought for £50 but it has only done a genuine 13500 miles. It is as new. But no power steering. I was told to pump up the front tyres to max recommended pressure as this will make the steering lighter. i haven't done that but I thought if you did, you could then tell me if it does the trick and then I will do mine.

Interesting you should say that Caz. We've been looking at fitting a turbo but at 2K +, it would take a lot of hills to get our money's worth.
As there aren't too many hills around East Anglia and we still have to work, we'll just go with the flow in the crawler lanes, we're not in a rush ... oh, and perhaps we'll avoid Austria!
