Thought that would get your attention.... When stopping Bessie after arriving on site, my 12v electrics completely failed to work, no lights, taps, ignition on cooker, no electric step. After thinking things over and trying unsuccesfully to find out where the main fuse for the battery was 'cos my ever so helpful(not.....how come it tells me how to behave on site but doesn't tell me where the dear old fuses are located) owners handbook said this was a likely cause, I gave up and decided I could live with the situation for the few days and take the old girl to Morans when I got home. A pint of cider later ( don't think this is relevant ) I automatically flipped the switch for the step when going out of the door and all was back to normal. I moved the van every day and no problems switching on since....
Is this likely to be a one off
Can I ignore it or should I get it checked out.
What do I do if it happens again Confused

we had something like that, on our first trip in our scout, hubby is an electrician, but it looked like we were going home , it seems on our scout and possibly on other models, that when the vans engine/power is switched on it shuts off everything in the van , you can override it or take that option away, there must have been a good reason for it, but i cant remember? Confused

Was this a silly question to ask? sorry if it was, but as none of the usual technical guys have replied I am not sure if I am being daft Embarassed

Comments anyone please! I know it may seem silly to some but when you are on your own its difficult to feel confident about these things. I would appreciate a cyber hug of reassurance if possible Smile

Hi,
Problem with fault finding on electrical items or anything else which has returned to normal function, what do you test or look for?
The answer to your question is probably wait. If it re occurs have it checked, if not it could have been a sticky switch or anything.

Cheers Malc, I hoped it could possibly wait as going to my service man means taking a days holiday from work and I would rather use that in a more leisurely way Smile

Agree with malc, intermitent faults are THE WORST!!! Mad

My intermitent wash wipe (No coincidence) works for 1 month then stops for a month and I cannot for the life of me find whats wrong so the best advise as malc says is to leave it untill it goes again sorry then try and get it looked. In the meantime if you have the inclination you could always take a look at connectors and switches to see if they are obviously in bad condition or loose etc. It could be something as simple as a bad connection so pull off and push back on a few times any connectors you can find, this includes fuses if you can find them, disconnecting any power before hand and doing it one cable at a time to avoid sparks and wrong connections. If you have a ZIG unit they are sometimes behind a blank panel on the control panel.
