We keep two of those plastic boxes which fold up - use for transporting items to the van eg food, clothes; for shopping if we go to the supermarket while away. We aklso use plastic biscuit tins and ice cream tubs to store items like phone chargers, adapters, short extension leads, games, sewing kit, - makes better use of space and stops things sliding about. We also have a 'bit box' where we put things that would otherwise get left on top of the table or worksurfaces. We keep a second 240 v phone charger and car charger permanently in the van. A torch, pegs, medical kit. Store wine in a supermarket wine carrier as we don't have a fitted one.
It takes a while before you have everything you need and you,ll find there are things you put in which you never use.

Paper plates.
For what they cost they can be made to last all day if you are on sandwiches and salad and then just dump them in the trash.Wouldn't try a cooked/gravy meal but I suppose they would be OK.Saves washing up.

Hi
We also use paper plates with a piece of kitchen roll if using sandwhiches or salad while on route or wanting a quick getaway in the am & if overnighting at Timberland when they want he van early for serving. Disposable cutlery is also handy. Also use disposable plates etc if having fish. You can also get an equivilant plastic disposable dinner plate & soup/cereal bowl. Not that we are lazy just saves time & water if running low.

Rapide, is this your first time & first van?

If so, a good tip is to spend the first couple of days and nights on your driveway, Ok the neighbours are going to stare a bit but if you do forget something important you won't have to go far for it.

FWIW a toolbox, preferably full, and Amen to Robin's suggestion of a multimeter.

From one 3 week trip we learned that we should have had:

a washing line and clothes pegs

bubble wrap to wedge things to stop 'em rattling

guy ropes, mallet and 4 pegs to tie down the awning in a wind

more c.d.'s

I have a few things I wouldnt be without at home or in my van,
I have a set of silicon ended utensils, they dont melt and can be used in any type of pan and can be used on the bbq too, slotted spoon, tongs and spatula/fish slice and small whisk got some from lakeland some from Ikea.
Also have small pressure cooker, have never seen a skillet, but use the presure cooker for soups stews potatoes anything that usually takes a lot of time or gas... or as large suacepan when needed.
I have a variation on the dustpan and brush, mine has rubber bristles one side and a squeegee on the other great on the floor but also gets dog hair out of upholstery and the squeegee is good on windows and the shower after use.
As has been said before a complete duplicate set of toiletries always and spare loo roll.... we always seem to run out after the shops have shut.....

Tina

I just won £10. off of myself. The bet was that we wouldn't get to ten replies before the double skillet was mentioned.

I love conspiracy theories and i have become convinced that all these postings are originated in Lakeland Plastics' web laboratory. Rolling Eyes
