I have just bought a Riing sim card (now United Mobiles) from Freeedom Mobiles, with the object of receiving calls abroad free.

I find I can ring out from it, but can ring to it from a mobile phone only. Phoning from a landline invariably fails to get through, with various tones and messages.

I phoned the UM helpdesk, and they could ring my Riing phone from a Swiss landline.

Has anybody else come across this problem? Is it something to do with the change from Riing to United Mobile? Can somebody who has one of these try phoning it from a landline, to see if they get the same result, please?

Any help appreciated

Same here, just tried - works from my Vodaphone but not from my UK landline. It did work when in France a while ago, and it worked in the UK too.

It also works from my Skype Out .

I suspect a BT/UK carrier trick....

More as it happens

...........................

It seems as if BT is treating the call as a landline number and not a mobile.
It looks like a BT problem but I've just spent half an hour talking to a BT robot with no luck. Next stop, International Operator. Alas, they are busy too.

Doh....

I have emailed United Moble, copy Freedom-Mobiles (the UK reseller who seem to have no support capability at all), and included a link to this thread.

Whilst it may be a BT issue, it is in United_mobiles interest to sort it - indeed they are in a better position to know who to talk to in BT. (But if anyone does know an effective route into BT...?)

It does indeed look like a BT problemo, I set up a FLexTel number yesterday ( gives you one free number and diverts it to almost anything) , pointed it at my Riiing phone, and got the same result. No connecto from BT.

There are some hints that the Riiing numbers may be blocked off for a number of reasons, including the great Porn-Dialler scams from a year or or so ago, and so on. Some German landline users have had the same problem, and their Telcos have recently re-connected to Riiing. Other reasons include BT having no agreement with Riiing, etc etc, but getting through to someone at BT to discuss this would be easier with a Ouija board.

To make it even more infuriating, BT and my Riiing Sim worked fine when I got it a year ago.

I spent some time on the phone with BT today- I registered a complaint on their website yesterday, and they rang back today.

A nice lady spent about 3/4 hour trying to get to the bottom of it. She confirmedthat if the number was reachable from a mobile it should be reachable from BT.She then talked to the International Operator, who said that there was often congestion on the line to Switzerland. I went away satisfied I had an answer.

Now I'm not so sure, I remembered I rang the United Mobile helpdesk on a landline, and got straight through, so it wasn't congested then. Meanwhile, I still have a hotlin outstanding with United Mobile.

This one may run and run

I'll try dialling my Riiing phone from BT at 3am this weekend. That should test the theory.......

This is a recent problem, though, Riiing worked fine with BT last year.

I have had some useful contact with Riing/United Mobile. (BT claimed there was nothing they could do.) Riing's latest response is below:

"Our technical support has contacted BT about this problem and it seems to be a general problem since a few days. They informed us that about 40 % is alright now and they are working on a solution.

I will inform you as soon as I get an update about the problem . In the meantime you have received a refund of 10.00 GBP for the inconvience."

I don't know about you, but I am pretty well impressed with Riing's response so far!

Seem to be having the same problem as described by you and wondered if you managed to resolve the problem .Cairngorm
