A bit of [not so useless] information -
Have you ever wondered why phone companies don't seem interested in trying to prevent theft of mobile phones ?
If you have ever lost, or had one stolen and you are on a plan, you may still have to pay the plan and you may have to buy another handset / or enter into another contract . . more revenue for the phone companies.
There is a simple way of making lost or stolen mobiles useless to thieves & the phone companies know it but keep it quiet.
Every mobile phone [not the SIM card] has a unique 15 digit number, if yours is lost/stolen give them this code & they will be able to block your handset so even if a thief changes the SIM card your phone will be totally useless !
You prob won't get your phone back but at least you'll know whoever stole it can't use it or sell it . . .
To check your mobile phones serial number, key in the following on your phone star-hash-zero-six-hash (*#06#) . . write it down & keep it safe just incase.
As Michael Caine would have said . . "nota lota people know that"

This is a great tip. HOWEVER blocked phones work in other countries even if barred here in the UK. The reason is that the database that scans the airways for nicked phones is not Europe wide.
From Imobilise.com
For UK customers please contact your network operator/service provider they will block your mobile phone handset by using the IMEI and your account details.
This will prevent unauthorised calls being made on your account.
This information will then be shared with all UK networks and your phone will be blocked on all networks. This means that even if the SIM card is changed, your lost / stolen handset will still not work.

To back up what you've said already Vic... you can also register your mobile electronics (mobile phones, laptops etc..) on immobilise.com. Click on the link to see how it works.
Only registered users can see links on our Forum Join Now or Login
Also, on immobilise.com is a link to "Report a stolen mobile phone", this gives you a handy list of all the network operators phone numbers, so you can call to get your stolen phone blocked.

It is definitely worth reporting and trying to have a stolen phone blocked. It is quite disgraceful that mobile phone companies could eliminate a huge amount of mobile phone theft - or at least the motivation for it, if they would just block all stolen mobile phones.
