Which forum if any do you use? I have been only ever been on Apple Yahoo groups but find them too disorganised. I have a great forum for my van (MHF of course) and for my pda (pda street) but nothing for my computer.

Hi, Frank

None at all, tbh. I could say "help and advice on using a MAC - why would anyone need it?"

I don't think I know of any.

Thanks Stew and Gerald.

I recently had a problem with my Junk mail filter (the standard one inside the Mail application).

What it was doing was marking up my outgoing mails from one of my email accounts as junk. It was bizarre as the incoming filter was working well with no false negatives and only a very rare false positive. I was begining to think it was getting judgemental about my prose Rolling Eyes or that there was a virus Crying or Very sad

I got no useful help from the three Yahoo groups that I registered with.

In the end I downloaded an ebook for $5 about the apple spam1 filter and rules generally. I found the problem and fixed it easily. Smile

You see the problem with OSX is that as a rule you don't get problems so when you do you are snookered. Its the one advantage of windows. clock

Having said that clever and malicious people can get through any system see .dmg files in Stews link (a bit of a red herring though would you open an .exe from an untrusted source - no I thought not its the same with a .dmg.

So what I thought I would do is find the Apple equivalent of MHF is there a php-nuke directory?

Regards Frank

Generaly I dont have any problems with my machines on a day to day basis. Most of the issues arise when Im doing media based stuff and theres a huge amount of support for that out there.

I have only recently started using the mail app having ditched entourage which has started to become unstable, most likly as we havnt seen any updates for a long while now.

Id be interested to know if you find a better junk mail filter. Ther are a few odities with the native one.

I have to say I now cannot tolerate any form of XP or the like.

My colegues tell me that they are running some form of Windows on their Apple boxes perfectly OK. I suppose thay want a more exciting unpredictable life.

I should have added this to my previous post. I use a G4 laptop, as it has a PCMCIA slot in it and the new Intel's dont. Anyway I cant aford one yet.

I support about 40 G5's for media use with my work. The support arangements are rather diferent in the Apple world, most issues are either supported direct from the Apple site but equaly so via various user groups. such as WEFUG or LAFUG West of England Final Cut Pro user Group and Los Angeles FCP UG etc. Much of it is also about finding similar users online and sorting the issues with in the various user comunities. Some of it is quite specialist and may not be relevent here I guess.

To be honest Google is as good as any to find out whats what, if there is a problem brewing then youll find it and online help groups will assist, a bit like this excelent site.

If anyone here needs media assistance then just mail me. I cant promise to know the answer but I may know where to find how to fix it.
