Thanks for the replies but I think you are missing the point all you do is go to their site and they know the web address of the site you came from - how? is the question you certainly aren't telling them overtly.
I understand how they replace the long url etc its just the first step how did they know what was on your computer screen?

There you are I was right. I didn't understand the question. Now I understand the question but I went to their website, (I think - there are loads doing this sort of linking thing) and that didn't happen.
I did see that many websites are banning Tiny URL's because it is so easy to mask the website that you will be whisked too.

When you stick this on the toolbar you are allowing java (a script) to read the link you are at. A lot of toolbar buttons available to stick on e.g. Yahoo etc will be able to know what websites you go to . Google another. And that is why I don't stick buttons on my web browser as all it does is report back home what sites you visit and the data is compiled for advertising purposes. If you down load Hijackthis (one word) and run that you will see all the stuff that is loading with IE and other startup progs, most of which reports back home.

Thank you pusser I will probably delete it then but I'll try hijackthis if there is a mac version.
