I Have old TomTom Go300. I can't work out from Tom Tom site if the updated UK & ireland map will download onto my unit ( ie will I have enough Memory? )
I had intended getting Western Europe maps for next summer as we are planning trip to Spain and France and I see that also includes UK (although not Ireland) I'm pretty sure that will not download to Go300 but if I were to buy the maps on SD card will that run on my TomTom? Don't want to spend 149 euros and find card is not compatible.
Would I be better off buy new TomTom One europe with all new updated maps for Ģ249 and keep old unit as spare for car?
Any advise appreciated as I'm lost on this one, I'm not techie as must be obvious from above.

Hi Brendan.

You will need a 512MB memory card for the UK and 1GB memory card for the whole of Europe. If you take the old memory card out, does it show the capacity?

You could always buy a bigger (1GB) card on eBay and then have flexibility....

Ooops.

Too quick off the mark. There are several options....

You can download (to your computer) just UK & I - 240MB for Eur 47.96 and load it onto your existing SD memory card.

You can download the whole of western Europe 956MB and load just the maps you want/will fit for Eur 79.96

You could buy a DVD with all western Europe maps for Eur 119.95 and load what you want/need onto your current SD card.....

Assuming you have at least a 256MB card, the UK & I maps will fit.

Many thanks folks, as far as I can see my SD card is only 128mb, that sounds as though I can't even download GB & Ire updates? Did't realize I could buy blank SD cards? wil try ebay, otherwise sounds as though Im stuck with old unit which is quite good most of the time but thinks I'm driving trough fields on sections of A1M and trys to get me to do U-Turns on new sections of motorway.
Might have to budget for new unit??

Try mx2.co.uk or 7dayshop for SD cards. Good service and good prices

Hi Brendon changing to a newer Tomtom is unlikely to make any difference to whether it gets lost, I would have thought thats more to do with the quality of the maps.

I have a tomtom 300 it came with a 128mb sd card, as soon as they updated the UK maps it was to small, so I have 256mb for the UK and 1gig for some of europe, to get all the lastest europe maps on an sd card I think you would need 4 gig. When I bought the set they came on 6 compact discs.

Go for a 512 card, then you can get stacks of POI's on it. These are available for free (mostly) from some web sites.

AND!! Go to the TomTom site and download TomTom HOME. This makes updating your unit easy. I have tomtom original, even older than yours, still gets me where i want to go.

This is all V. helpful, just to clarify for myself; if I buy "[Integral Secure Digital 1GB MLC Regular Speed (SD1GB) , cost Ģ12.49" from mx2.co.uk as mentioned then I should be able to download the W. Europe map from Tom Tom site to my PC and transfer it to the new SD card (which I assume will fit and be compatible with my Go300?) At 79.50 euros this seems quite a good deal for updated GB maps and complete W. Europe maps.
Sorry to be so pedantic but depth of my ignorance in technical matters is bottomless.
I assume the SD card is simply a data storage device and Tom Tom programme is held elsewhere in the unit?
much thanks.
