To cut a long borrrrrring (zzzzzz) story short - dynamic axle weighing machines and their Dept. of Trans/DoE/Police users work out the % overweight and you are then warned/fixed penaltied/summoned to court accordingly.

The majority of detections rely on overweight *axle* figures.

One or two posters have tried to give 'reality' answers but what becomes utterly confusing to newcomers are the numerous 'off piste' posts involving gadgets/physics/armchair legal advice etc. (no offence intended - been there done that).

If your m/home looks like a badly trimmed speedboat, ie ass down, nose up, then of course you're going to get stopped by the authorities but until then *no* it's simply not practical for random checking of m/homes. One of the main reasons for this is quite simply the legal position that has to be complied with ie., suspicion of overloading; within set distance to nearest weighbridge and compensation if found to be under the limit.

For anyone trying to locate a weighbridge - simple suggestion:- call with haulage company; quarry; industrial estate; docks and if you're really stuck the best one of all is contact the traffic division of your local police.

Hope this has simplified something which in all honesty was starting to confuse me Confused as well as anyone who didn't know anything at all about the original post.
