Hello to you all, yes , I agree, you all seem very welcoming and friendly.
We are new part-timers. Hired a camper a year last Easter for 3weeks and headed for our friends in Northern Italy via Berlin(BRRR!!!) We Loved it so much we decided to take the wholeScottish school summer holiday for 5and1/2 weeka Europe Grandish Tour. I managed to arrange a long holiday from work. We started to look around for hire vehicles and were stunned to find that we were going to have to pay about a £1000 per week when everything was counted in. So we pondered hard for almost a whole day, then decided to see if we could possibly arrange finances to buy. This was remarkably easy and Very Scarey. I foolishly sent my husband off to buy a second hand one, and he came back with a LHD pilote 901.( I am daunted by the length and to some extent width of this lovely machine- have only driven it x2 on mototways. He on the other hand puts me to shame, having excelled in all locations, fromSpain, Sorrento(wrong turn)Chech republic to Torridon(Grrr)
Accompanied by our teenage girls we have just returned from a mad, over ambitious, marathon. each of the places we visited(some were revisits but many were new territory) warrented a week each, so we have our future trips planned. It was mad ,never to be repeated, but it was also fun and impressive . You might have seenus as we waved indiscriminately to any camper we knocked up the following itenary:-Rosyth to Zebrugge, Reims,Never=F1. Magny-cours(daughters 18th birthday present)Beaulieu, Andorra, Barcelona,Near Frejus, Pisa,Rome, Pompeii, sorrento, Firenze, our friends in Emilia Romana, Trieste, Bled,Vienna, Prague,Leipsig, Trier, Brugge.. Remember, this was to have been a one off long holiday in a rented camper, but now we have our own. we just forgot to make the adjustment!
We have been camping abroad for years in tents, later caravan. but we arevery green round the gills when it comes to campers, and we will (and already have )enjoy learning lots from all of you seasoned campers.

Hello again and thank you for that posting, I'm a little jealous.
That is one heck of an experience you have had as a family. Something quite special to look back on in later years whether you do anything like it again or not.
Thankyou for the welcomes. We did have a marvellous, (but very tiring time) I hope you didn't all think I was being a braggart, listing that journey- I was really trying to say that, in our inexperience, we were seduced by the speed and ease of the motorhome( who wouldn't be after a few years of pulling-"tugging"-a caravan with a venerable Landrover and it's unembellished 2.5D engine) and almost felt impelled to put it to the test.
I wonder if anyone else had fallen into the trap of trying to squash in too much activity when they first had a motor home?
Helen B , the site has taught me at least 2 things today "tuggers" and the Aires on Gillians site. despite having the Aires book and no French to read it, I have always been a little doubtful about them- Thanks Gillian- I suspect there is a whole new world in that subject alone.

We certainly had to adjust our way of travelling from the way we had used a caravan.
We found that finding a campsite for a few days and making daily forays into the surrounding area was wasteful of time and fuel. Now we move almost every day and use the moving on as part of the exploration af the area looking for aires and parking spots for later as we journey. Sometimes we go into a little town, find the aire and if we like it spend time in that town and overnight there.

The purpose of of posting those pictures is to give people who have a suspicion of aires a little peep at what these aires can be like. Peejay also has many pics of aires in his album and they are also worth looking at.
