Hi Russell

If all you need is a Firewall and perhaps an Anti-Virus program you can't do better than these two - the added bonus is they are free! And they work extremely well.

Zone Alarm (free firewall) http://tinyurl.com/kzq

AVG (free Anti-Virus software) http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

Hope this is of some help - love to Oscar, might meet up with you beginning of May, if you're still around Garda.

Hi Russell I use AVG never had any problems with it or any viruses either Laughing

P.S. We now got a Chevorlet Matiz and have collected A Frame from Des now all we have to do is get the bar for the car fitted.

Hi Jacqui

I use AVG too - on your past recommendation - it seems to do a good job, but I saw the MSN one with the words "FREE"! LOL

Hi Russell
I installed Windows Live OneCare a couple of weeks ago when my Norton screwed up (so I dumped it....) and so far I am very impressed with it mate. Works superbly in the background, doesn't seem to slow the laptop down like Norton did and constantly updates itself and installs its own and windows updates seamlessly, you just get a little box pop up and tell you that it has done it....
I used to use Zonealarm and AVG but found I was getting loads of pop ups and spyware (I guess that with the free stuff, it ain't really free, someone has to pay to feed the developer.......) so I got rid of them.
If I remember correctly I will have to pay about £37 for Live Onecare in a couple of months (when the freebie bit expires) but that is chump change for the piece of mind, knowing that you have the protection you need.
I am not saying the free stuff isn't any good but in my experience there is no such thing as a free lunch Laughing Laughing Laughing
Give it a try Russell, after all it is free for 90 days to evaluate...........

Hi Russell

Another good one is Panda. Don't whether you can download it as I got it on disc but I bet it is down-loadable.

Since loading it onto this new laptop it has disinfected absolutely loads of spyware/viruses etc. and I have had not had any problems at all. I have it set to update everytime I switch onto the internet which is about six times a day. I have never noticed any difference in the speed of the internet browsing whilst it is updating.

I have been using it for the past three years so it has been fully tested over a long period. I think I pay about £20 a year.

I don't know if any of you saw the BBC prog earlier this week "ID Fraud: They stole my life"?

Pete and Didi, the security people who did it, have written a follow up document, on http://www.white-hats.co.uk/Downloads/IDFraud.pdf

Some useful info there
