Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me.

My father bought a Hymer motorhome back from Germany a couple of years ago but didn't register it in the uk as he fell ill.

The motorhome has been sat around since importing and is still on the long since expired registration plates.

My question is, will there be any problems registering the vehicle considering the long delay (I know you are supposed to register it within 30 days maximum) or will pretty easy.

Obviously the mileage will be different to what it was in germany, as my father did some running around in france after purchase for a week or two, will any of this be a problem?

Opinions would be greatly received!

Cheers,

Graeme

Hi Graeme

Welcome to MHF.

Don't recall a similar question being asked before so not sure of the answer to this one.
I assume that the vehicle has been stored off-road since your father imported it otherwise he would certainly have comitted an offence.
My advice would be to visit your local DVLA licensing office, taking along whatever documentation you posess and explain the situation to them. I would be very surprised if they couldn't register the vehicle provided there is a reasonable explanation (illness) why it wasn't registered within the prescribed time. They're usually very helpful on importing issues. You could of course try phoning them for advice - but might get fed up trudging through the automated answering system and waiting for a human being to answer.
Be sure to report back once you've sorted it, the information will probably be useful to someone else who finds themselves in the same predicament.

Hello, I know it has been awhile since you posted that topic but how did it resolve itself. What make of Hymer is it age etc. I was in the market myself and if the price was right I would sort it.
