I did post ages ago about cleaning the inside of your goddess but cant be bothered to find it Rolling Eyes

But anyway further to that post we hired wet carpet cleaner over the weekend and boy has it done the job!!

Chuggs is now like a new pin with colours garing back at us - even the black speckled carpet is black again not a grimmey brown - people you MUST do this if your baby is over 5 years old since you will be amazed at the results. We did all 5 sides - floor,side and rear walls and ceiling as well as all the upholstery. The colour of the water was disgusting to say the least but the smell afterwat=rds really made it worth it. I may ad at this point that this is not a reflection on our personal hygene but on the use that chuggs has had over the past ten years by the previous owner Embarassed

Dont hire one from B&Q or home base etc since they charge by the day whatever the day, go to a comercial hirer who do weekend rates.

You will be amazed and doing it twice will still return the same colour of water.

- I have one of those amazing "dry" steam cleaners by polti( I didn't tell him how much it cost yet) Hubby was seriously impressed by the results, especially the suspiciously yellow( ? prev owners smoked- not much evidence- ) ceiling bug screens coming snowwy white, I may own up soon, especially as I earn half the money( he reckons tools like router tables are essential- never consults me).
Do any of you use those bags that can be shrunk to half the size using a vacuum ? I was so excited yesterday , packed all the clean S/bags, duvets/pillows /linen into these lavender scented bags.They halved in size when i applied suction. 10 mins later they resumed previous size.
you see I can't read Chech.
Does anyone use them, are they worth while(I once got moths in a caravan cupboard)- if so, I think I will order from lakeland plastics.

Hi Adbe,
Coincidentally I packed up some spare linen in those bags at the weekend. My bags are from Lakeland and it did say on the instructions to run the sealer across the seal at least 2 or 3 times to make sure it's properly closed before sucking the air out at the other end. Two bags have remained tightly sealed but the other has expanded again, however it was a very large bag and I'd put a lot into so probably my fault Embarassed

+ it was heavy and took 2 of us to shove it on to a high shelf so may have knocked the seal open.
I intend buying some more for the 'van - ideal for over winter.

PS: And I've cleaned my carpets too, Chuggalugs - definitely worthwhile!

When i purchased 'Old Merlin' a few years ago the only cause for concern was the state of what used to be called the shag pile carpet.
Ugh in fawn nylon.I thought to clean it but then ripped it all up and covered it (very patiently) with rubber backed carpet tiles from Wickes.If any thing now gets soiled it can be removed and replaced cheaply.

I am not sure you could convince me to fill the inside of my'van with water.I have more trouble trying to keep it out.I would ensure during this dry spell all windows are open to evaporate any moisture left in the van.

The carpet in my new van is very dingy and I've been thinking about what to do with it.

Would like laminate floor with a couple of rugs but it's a bit beyond me to do that myself - and I think I might have trouble opening the fridge door with the thicker flooring.

But I could take up the old carpet and put carpet tiles down myself, and as you say it would be easier to keep clean Smile

Moondog - The whole van was dry after 2 days - this is being realistic after you have sat on a seat for more than 5 mins.

Thats why we picked the bankholidayweekend.

Hi Folks

Have used those space bags. They are brilliant provided you seal them properly.

Regarding cleaning carpet etc.

Best to use is a polti steam cleaner. It uses dry steam at 120 - 130 degrees and is called dry steam. Any thing cleaned this way ie matress or carpet is safely 100% dry in 20 mins. & is efficient & only uses tap water.
