I downloaded the AVG Free version recently and its been working fine until this morning. Switched PC on and error message came up saying it was unable to open application. When I try to click on AVG control centre icon it says:

Could not initialize AVG Anti-virus Kernal interface.
Application cannot run

Has anyone else got or had this problem with AVG - or is it just me Crying or Very sad

Maura

Mine seems to be fine. Did you uninstall Norton ok? As suggested try to download again and install again.

Same thing happened to me. Re-download and click the repair option.

Right, well I have un-installed AVG and looked on Grisoft website to re-install and just about to give that a go, but whilst I was looking I did come across a website forum which seems to be just for users who are having problems with AVG freezing up their PC's etc...

forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?2,21965,25067

so it seems there may be problems with this latest version 7.5, which is a bit of a shame.

BTW
I have un-installed the Norton Internet Security I put on my PC but unfortunately my ISP - BT Yahoo, includes Norton in their package so I have no idea how or even IF I should be mucking around with that element or even what it includes.

I will have a go at re-installing AVG and see what occur's. I have yet to install a Firewall yet so was wondering what product to use. I am somewhat limited as I'm using Windows 2000 and a lot of them are for XP.

Well.......here I go Shocked

"I may be gone for some time" ...........now where have I heard that before Confused

You do need to check that you have no other virus checkers running as this will certainly cause problems, not the least of which is to slow your PC down to a crawl. I would suggest you go to ADD\Remove programs and uninstall anything that has Norton or Symantec listed and then reinstall AVG assuming as you said you have uninstalled it. Most problems with AVG are not with AVG but other programs and\or viruses already on there.

Hellloooooo Laughing

I'm Back and have re-installed AVG and just hope it all works out.

I was going to install Zone Alarm Firewall but when I searched for info this came up so have put it on hold for now. Have enough to sort without getting more hassle from Firewalls that go wrong Evil or Very Mad

I might post a new thread to see who uses Firewalls and what one is the most popular because I am fed up reading all the marketing blurb swearing that this product is THE BEST etc etc. and then finding it is a pile of poo.
