We have the above on our Carioca 5, already installed when we bought it, about a year ago. We haven't used a TV before but I thought I would like to look into i and check how the aerial works. However, there appears to be no power to the booster box (see photo). I expect that the red and black wires go to a 12V socket somewhere but can't trace them. I checked on Maxview's site for instructions but they don't have any.

Does anyone know more about this than me (I would be astonished if there wasn't anyone on this great site!). The aerial appears attached OK, by "F" plugs, but there is no red light on the box and no signal to the TV. I'm afraid I don't know much about TVs/aerials, etc and can't justify the cost of satellite.

Hi Tim,

have you checked the obvious,have you got 12 volts in the habitation area,are the lights working in the van,and is the booster switched on?The booster is normally hard wired to the 12 volt circuit so check the 12 volt blade fuses on the distribution/charger unit.

I agree with Steve. No light on the box = no power to it. You will need to check switches/fuses etc and trace with a voltmeter.

Thanks, both of you. Steve, all the 12V electrics work. Hooked up to the mains and that all works too. I took out some furnishings to try to trace where the 12V red/black wires go. They seem to join the regular 12V wiring. Sorry, I'm no expert. I do not know where the fuses may be. Are they generally in the same place in each van. Or, are you talking about the fuses you normally find in the cab?

Tim,

on most modern m/homes the 12 volt distribution and fuses are integrated with the charger unit,look for the push in type blade fuses.If you have a circuit diagram trace the circuit for the tv booster and try to identify which fuse it is on,you will probably find that this fuse supplies other circuits in the habitation area,if these are all working then the fault lies on the cable run or the booster itself.

If you reach this stage then it would be an idea to break into the circuit near the booster and check with a multimeter to see if you have got 12 volts,if you have then the booster is faulty.When cutting the wires choose a spot where you can re-connect easily and unobtrusively with strip connectors.

Thanks Steve. I will check the fuses initially just in case. Failing that I will get the power to the booster tested (my father-in-law is good at that sort of thing).
