Hi everyone

We seem to be having a spate of members entering wildcamping spots into the campsite database but not positioning them on the map. This seems to be happening mainly with new members. Can I just emphasise that we can't approve any entries without a map position where wildcamping spots are concerned. In the case of campsites, the admin staff can often locate them from the description and address and add the map reference but with parking or wildcamping spots this is virtually impossible so we have to delete them. If you've entered a site and it isn't approved this is usually the reason why. We do PM members in most instances but where a member isn't a subscriber we can't even do this.

Can I also ask that when you make an error during entry, please don't create a duplicate. I've just had a batch of 9 duplicates, all of them without map references. If you think you've made an error in your entry, leave it alone and send a PM to me or Spykal explaining what you've done, most times we can approve it and allow you to edit the entry later. If you aren't a subscriber and can't send a PM, just put a post up in the website help forum.

As an afterthought, Spykal has suggested posting a link to his "how to do it" post so here it is:

Hi,

Could we again remind all members that are entering campsite database submissions to give all the details required, there are some excellent submissions coming in but sadly still some that have had to be deleted because of the lack of information.

We hope you understand that if your submission is deleted and not entered it is simply because we cannot continue to alter them ourselves, otherwise the members submitting them would not be aware they had done wrong and would simply carry on in the same fashion.

MHS…Rob Very Happy

Thanks for posting that reminder Rob, some other points need to be emphasised here I think.

1) Please make sure your entry is not a duplicate, search the campsite database for the site name and town before submitting an entry, I've rejected three so far tonight due to duplication, you're wasting your time and mine.
2) I'm having to spend an excessive amount of time correcting entries or adding details to make entries worthwhile. Please make sure you include a FULL address and set the location ACCURATELY on the map. If the site has a website, Email address and telephone number include them. It takes only a few minutes of research on the internet to get these details.
3) Please enter a score rating if you've visited the site, I can't believe how many members tick the "visited" box but don't set a score against the site.
4) Add a photo if you can, this makes the entry so much more interesting to others.

The standard of entries is becoming so poor recently that the amount of work to get them to acceptable standards is becoming too time consuming so we may have to start rejecting many more site descriptions which need significant editing before approval.

Hi

Campsite entries can be edited by the member who entered them ....so if you would like to update, add more details or a picture to one of your entries go to the listing and click on the edit icon.

It looks like this and can be found at the bottom right of the listing

Mike

In spite of these words above, there are still some very poor entries coming in for campsites. Please be aware that sites submitted without map locations will simply be deleted unless they have sufficient merit and address information to warrant a member of staff spending time completing the missing information.

We always PM members when an entry is rejected giving the reason why but obviously where members are not subscribed we are unable to do this. So if you're not a subscriber and your entry doesn't appear on the site database within 24hrs of submission you can be sure it was either a duplicate or missing vital information.

Bear in mind also that if the moderators are kind and let one or two dodgy ones though the campsite admin a) throw a wobbler and b) delete it anyway Smile
