Just so you know!

If you are thinking of, or are in the midst of Importing your latest expensive toy from the good old U S of A . . .

Be aware that HM Revenue and Customs will be not only have his usual black mask and brace of pistols ready, but additionally another quite disgusting implement ready to bludgeon you with!

You are probably aware that your baby will attract the following iniquitous costs:

10% Duty on the Bill of Sale value of your baby PLUS
17.5% VAT on the cost + duty (tax on tax) PLUS
17.5% VAT on Shipping and Insurance costs! AND

Just when you thought it could get no worse - just before he computes this legal highway robbery, he uses a dollar/pound exchange rate which even the grasping High street banks, (who are currently being hauled through the High Courts for putting people into penury), would be embarrassed to quote!

The current (27/07/2007) dollar/pound headline rate is $2.053 / £1

OK nobody gets that - fair enough. But even the aforemention greedy grasping clearing banks are offering $1.98 / £1 on sums of £10k.

Our current Government's legal highwaymen use $1.73 / £1 Twisted Evil

see here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/exrate/usa.htm

So expect your import bill to be several hundred's if not thousands more than it should be by some very creative accounting.

I suppose this is only to be expected from a government who have already plundered our pensions and left us to live on taters 'n' onions or panhackerty in our dotage.

You may do well to remember this, next time you are putting your X on a ballot paper!

You forgot to add the shipping to the original bill of sale so attracting all the compound taxes and not just 17.5% at the end Crying or Very sad

makes it even worse Rolling Eyes

Hopefully though you have save a bundle but it's rather a lot.

If you hand invoice in to HMC in £ then there will be no exchange rate to worry about.
