I upgraded my Western and Central Europe Map to v6.75 today from Tomtom (20% discount until 31/07/2007), and found that it created a new folder (old: Western_and_Central_Europe new: Western and Central Europe).

Once the new map is installed, you must access Change Preference >> Manage Maps >> Switch map, and select the new map. You will see that there are now two "Western Europe" maps. The one which is highlighted by default is the existing one; to select the newly-downloaded map, you should select the other one, which will of course remain selected for all time (or until you choose to change back, or to another map).

The new folder does NOT contain any POIs, Recent Destinations or Favorites. Here is what you need to do to copy them over (no need to reconstruct them, thank goodness...). Before you do anything however - BACK UP YOUR TOMTOM using the TomTom Home program.

Place your 910 into the docking station & connect to your PC. Load Explorer (RIGHT-click on START, then left-click on "Explore"). In the left-hand pane, you will see your unit listed as a new drive letter e.g. TomTom (E:\). If there is a Plus sign to the left of it, click on that, otherwise if there's a Minus sign, click on the TomTom (E:\). In the right-hand pane, you will see all the folders contained on the 910's hard disk. If they're not listed alphabetically, click on the word "Name" at the top of the leftmost column, ensuring that the little triangular arrow is pointing upwards (if it's pointing downwards, click again). Look for the two folders as described in the first paragraph above, and ensure you understand which is the old map folder and which is the new.

Click on the old map folder, and sort the files which are then displayed, by TYPE (click on the Type column & ensure the triangular arrow is pointing upwards).

TO COPY POIs
Copy all the .bmp files to the new folder (contain POI logos)
Copy all the .OV2 files to the new folder (contain POI details)

TO COPY FAVORITES & RECENT DESTINATIONS
Copy the file MapSettings.cfg to the new folder (contains these settings)

Restart your TomTom.

Be aware that there is a small risk of your old favorites being slightly off-kilter with the new maps, as new roads may mean different access points.

Dougie.

Well I bought my updated map of Western & Central Europe from tomtom yesterday. Didn't it take a long time to download? and that is with broadand, albeit with a wireless router.

At first the activation code didn't work Sad tired 3 times and had to phone tomtom support. They then sent me an email with a different activation code and thankfully this time it worked.

So this morning I followed your instructions and copied the French aires, France Passion, my list of CL & CS sites, wildspots, parking spots I had come across, wohnmobil stellplatz to the new map. I didn't bother with recent destinations and I hadn't put any favourites in.

Well I checked and all that I copied seems to be there Very Happy

So thanks again for the information.
