Hi Clever people,

I am sure that you will be able to answer this query !!

Not really about satelite.. But just Normal TV.

Is it worth transporting my "normal" UK TV to France /Spain for
winter in the sun (3 months).
Dont need the space but why carry if it is of no use ?
Aerial is via MH status equipment.

Regards and thanks
Juditrh & Graham.

Judith & Graham,

French terrestrial TV broadcast to a different standard (format) than UK terrestrial.

Is your "normal" TV a multistandard one?

Hi Gra n Jud In the majority of cases regarding UK spec TV's, they will not work in France or Spain, as Dave posted.

You can however have them converted for around £35.00, in order to be able to recieve 'local' channels.

M&D (wishing they were going to France/Spain for three months Crying or Very sad )

Hi GranJud

Just a thought Idea

I noticed that in the subject line you used the words "Flat screen"...do you mean that your TV is an LCD Flat sceen, if so many of these are multi system and may work in Europe

Best maybe to tell us exactly what TV you are thinking of taking. Make, Model etc.

Mike

So does the manual say it is multistandard?

Currys do not do a 15" Logik LCD any more it seems. Their others do not claim multistandard (nor do they say PAL only!).

Previous enquiries about Logik TVs on either this forum or another showed very little information on the web.

I can't help feeling you are asking us the question whose answer lies in a booklet in one of your drawers!

Many Thanks Mandy&Dave, Mike and lastly Dave.

As I thought some clever people in here. also very helpful.
Thanks for the info.

Dave :- You were quite correct! The info needed may be in the manual.
Page 15 states :-
Region. (which can be selected from their menu)
France : SECAM L/L
W.EUR : PAL B/G

Presumably I can select when I get over there.

Once again Cheers. Hopefully saved me a few quid.

Regards Graham

Mandy and Dave state that you can get TVs converted to multistandard for about £35. Where can you get this done?

Hi Gelathe

The system used is Spain is PAL, which is the same format used in the U.K., however the sound is carried on a different frequency - so you will need to check with the manufacturer to see if your television set supports this. If not, conversion sets are available at quite a low price.

The rules above may differ however if you are looking at using a decoder to watch satellite TV - the rules about satellite usage in Spain are changing at this moment in time, and I suggest strongly you speak to your current satellite subscriber, or contact one of the many English owned satellite installation companies based in Spain.

Check with a local T.V repair shop, regarding the sound modulator inside your TV set, the parts are not expensive, it's the labour plus the value added tony tax!

If you have good command of the Spanish language, then have it done, but if you can live without sound then take it as is.

It is possible to have a set converted abroad, and will probably be cheaper aswell

Regards M&D
