Hi Guys

My Wife has a Hotmail account and a laptop with Outlook installed. I am trying to get Outlook to send/receive mail via the Hotmail account. I have tried setting it up through Outlook, but sending or receiving always fails through "Unspecified errors". Is there a knack to this ? All suggestions appreciated!

Thanks, but that doesnt seem to help. The instructions for configuring a Hotmail account on Windows XP says:
1. Start-control panel
2. If you see "Pick a category" (Which I do) click "User accounts".
3. It says click "mail" in user accounts-but the problem is, there is no "Mail" in the user accounts page I see !?!
Confused
Help !
(sorry for any confusion -this is my Wife's MHF account-I forgot to sign in again as myself !!

If it is outlook and not outlook express.

Start outlook, Click Tools> Email Accounts

then set it up from their

You also need to make sure you have a paid for account as Microsoft has stoped you from being able to use outlook without an upgraded account its i think £15 per year.

hi, hotmail is a web based account and should be accessed through the web site, you can get it to work with other clients but why bother just set it as a favourite on web browser and away u go

I have it in outlook so i have all my emails available on the move even if i dont have a internet connection, if it was only available online i would have troubles as i dont always have access to the net but i do need to get to my old emails.

3 solutions present themselves

1. see if hotmail can forward emails to your isp email addy (unlikely)
2. change to your ISP email service where you can download to outlook (time consuming to inform everyone, and you will still lose your old emails unless you forward them on manually)
3. get a moby with either WAP (most quality phones up to 8 yrs old) or gprs (somewhat newer). this mobile internet access is supported by hotmail and you can check on the move (could be costly in europe, but still cheaper then connecting via 3g cards or using ur moby as a modem). i was using wap on btcellnet before the millenium and then it was a free service,

if you will always have your laptop with you i'd recommend option 2 - if you want the option of leaving your laptop at home take option 3
