Whilst cruising Europe recently, occasionally the old girl stuck to the windscreen made a funny "chirrup" noise - a bit like a dodgy ringtone.

It wasn't a speed camera, and there was no message on the screen to say what it was. It did it a couple of times through Switzerland, a few times coming back through Switzerland, and a few times in France. Any ideas?

Supplementary question: apart from the odd 'hangup', has anyone had it be about 10-15 seconds behind everything that's happening out on the road? Coming back through Reims, the messages were seconds behind the 'action', and even the map updating was out. We took the turnoff it told us to, but about half a km earlier than it told us to, and the map was showing us where we'd been some time before. Weird. A switchoff / switchon 'cured' the problem. Maybe it was just overheating?

Nope, no funny noises.

And no problems with delayed response either. Maybe occasionally a momentary delay say on a roundabout, but certainly not like 10-15 seconds.

Lost satellite coverage a few times when under tree cover

Smile Smile

ps Also came across situations when the mapping was slightly out of date which confused her for a while!

Is it posible that he/she is giving an audible warning about a nearby poi category? Something more common in Switzerland than France? Cuckoo clock factory?

Laughing Laughing Nice try, but I think not. There was no POI symbol on the screen. I wonder if it was something to do with it 'getting confused' - we had to restart it in Switzerland too, because it hung at one point.

Back in the days when I wrote software, we used a thing called a watchdog, which continually needed to be 'poked' by the software. If the software crashed, in our case the watchdog reset the processor. Maybe the chirrup is the watchdog? Telling us the software's got itself in a tizzy?

The words "straws" and "clutching" come to mind Confused
