Hi has anyone fitted a performance enhancing mod to their 2.8 td. Does it help the abysmal accel away from roundabouts before the turbo kicks in? Are they easy to fit ? how much do they cost & are they value for money . rgds deegod

I'm rather surprised that you are saying "abysmal accel away from roundabouts" I have a 2.8TDI Fiat Kontiki 650 and am more than happy with the unchipped performance, I assume it's been checked?

Steve at Essanjay told me there is a marked difference, but I'm satisfied with what I have.

We are having our 2.8 Timberland chipped as soon as the warrentry expires.

From all the reports I've read nobody that has had the work completed is unhappy.

I had my 4.5 tonne JTD ducato based mh chipped by Tuning Concept. They charged about £200 and came to my house to install. The midlands agent is Simon Hall on 07973 553549.

Web site is www.tuning-concept.info but be warned, if you are not on broad band, it has a HUGE flash intro which you can't seem to skip!

If your vehicle is not a "J", ie has not got common rail injection, then I believe you are limited to an analogue processor . This effectively tricks the management system into thinking the engine is still cold, and increases the fuel to the injectors, and therefore increases the performance.
If it is common rail, then you can get digital processors which more accurately adjusts fuel pressure and spray patterns than the standard management system to give improved performance.
Digital are better, but more expensive. Usually if there is an adjustment knob on the box it is analogue.
Analogue processors are around £200 and digital £375 upwards. The other option is to go to someone like TB Turbo and get your existing management system modified, but this is not revesible or removable.

with regards to the question about chipping diesels
I own a garage and regulaly have vehicles in to be chipped.My preference is superchips who have mobile technicians countrywide .Ive had my last three motorhomes chipped its the first mod I do, more power better acceleration and better fuel economy.Out of interest for the people who say chipped motors wont pass the diesel smoke test at MOT time,well I did one today and took it straight down for an MOT went through on fast pass which very few diesels do ,for the layman the smoke imitted from the exhaust has to be within a certain level or your motor fails.But beware of the black boxes fitted between the ECU (computer) they just fool the ECU into thinking its underfueling and give it more hence more smoke.If in dought seek advice. £400 to£500 is about normal price,well worth it .

I was under the impression that van Aachen claim no difference at all in performance between their SmartBox and SmartChip. Andm, indeed that emissions remain within prescribed norms.
