Hi
Total virgin to motorhoming but always fancied one. After looking around quite a bit and reading various reports ordered a new Compass Avantgarde last month for delivery in March 2005. Really excited about it and the freedom it will bring. Only problem now, neighbour, whom i've had no problems with in the past, mentioned covenants regarding caravans!! and his body language implied he wasn't exactly impressed. Having checked covenants it reads "No caravan house on wheels or boat or trailor or tent shall be placed parked or allowed to remain on the property hereby conveyed or any part thereof without the consent of the Vendor. I'm contacting my solicitor tomorrow to find out our position'(and whether motorhome is classed as caravan house on wheels and who the "Vendor" actually is), but in the meantime would be interested to find out other owners experiences on this.

Welcome to the site and sad to hear about your problems, I hope your solicitor can come up with some reasuring news for you. Not as if you are going to park an American rec vehicle, cannot understand the thought processes of some people, have you shown your neighbour a pic of your new toy?

When we moved housen a few years ago our solicitor noticed such a clause in the then (ground) leasehold and contacted the leaseor. It was in fact forward of the building ie on the front drive. After some investigation we bought the leasehold ie ;to become freehold and the situation changed.
There is the other point to bear in mind its a road vehicle with a tax disc on and as such can park on the road provided it doesnt contravene any traffic regulations.

I was looking to buy a new build house which had sufficient space for my 'van' This was my criteria for buying the house in the first place. However there was a restrictive covenant. I found out later that a motorhome was exempt. As it is taxed you could park it on the road but why? Sometimes I think it is jealous pathetic miserable people whose idea of fun is washing the car on Sundays or ironing their beige nylon jacket.
Along as you park it within the building line I can't see any problem and if they complain as long as it is without basis-stuff 'em! I say.
