I'm new to Sat Nav and at present I have a Garmin Nuvi 250.
I'm slowly finding my way around it and I can put in co- ords and find places etc.
I have found by using Google Earth I can find the lat/long for many places but what I find confusing that the sat navs don't all use the same co - ords.
I use one site that gives both sets co - ords so that is not a problem but I would like to know how to covert decimals to degrees
Latitude : (Nord) 40.48374° Décimaux ou 40° 29′ 1.464′′
Longitude :(Est) 022.31626° Décimaux ou 022° 18′ 58.536′′
I would like to be able to do this with out being on line, just by using a hand calculator.
I've found this site useful

for convert OS grid reference/post codes to Lat/Long
40 are the Degrees, then multiply .48374 by 60 which gives 29.0244, so 29 are the minutes, then multiply .0244 by 60 which gives 1.464.for the seconds

I had this problem, I wanted the co-ordinates of a number of sites, my answer was to set up a very simple spreadsheet.
Column A Position
Column B Position- Integer position
Column C B*60
Column D Column C-Integer Column C
Column E Column D*60

Some scientific calculators have the facility to do this.
Don can you plug the traffic reciever into yours. (i have the G 350) I bought one ogg ebay for about £34. Its very good at giving traffic reports.
Good luck with the Garmin. they are excellent sat navs. I did a review on mine on this forum if you look in the review section.

Phill,
The 250 is a very basic model. There's a slot for some sort of SD/XD card I think and there's the power socket but that's it.
I'm slowly getting there with it.
I've loaded a couple of aires in Greece so I've got that sorted as well.
I need to sit down with somebody who can explain the functions to me. I'll find some unsuspecting soul at the York show and ruin there weekend
