Unbook. They won't mind so long as it's not absolutely at the last minute.
What annoys them, and quite rightly so, is those who don't turn up and fail to let them know in advance. (Accidents or sudden medical problems etc. apart of course.)
Cheers

We have paid £20 to stay on the CC site overnight on Thursday night. We want to leave home early on Thursday morning, spend all day at the show, stay over Thursday night, then we have to go on to Wales on Friday. So we thought it would be worth £20 to park the van, leave it safe and secure all day, nip back for a meal, then have a bit of entertainment Thursday evening and away we go early Friday morning! Doesn't that sound like a good plan? And I am one of those who is happy to pay for such facilities.
However, when we got the tickets, it states "Pitches will be available from 1.00 pm on the day of arrival"! So, when we get there on Thursday morning, we have to park in the main car parks while we go to the show, then at some point have to go back and get the van, then move it round to the CC car park. I suppose it is obvious when you think about it, if the pitches are full, then we have to allow time for others to leave before we can move onto the site. But had I thought about it, I wouldn't have bothered to book.
we had exactly the same quandry last year; we turned up at about 10:00am at the site and got on no problem. doesn't mean to say that there'll be space to get on when you arrive, but it's worth a try. Some people will be leaving early, so should be safe; if you can't get on, then you'll have to do the loop around as you said.

Sanatogen - Ah, but this time we had to pay up front, not refundable. Understandable in the circumstances I think.
Bognormike - Yes, we'll give it a go and let you know how we get on. Same scenario applies for those arriving the night before to go to the show the following day, they have to be off the site by 11.00 am. So they have to get up and move the van before they can go to the show. Only way round it seems to be to book for two nights!

I can see where various points of view are coming from and can agree that it is quite expensive, however as this is our first m/h show and we are still very wet behind the ears in most things m/h! we paid for two nights ( I don't sleep much and Sue can sleep through the roughest 100 miles of road in Spain!) so planes 'n' trains won't matter. if it turns out to be less than a good experience then we will do it differently next time, if we do do it again. If they want repeat business they will provide a good service, if not then..... they will have to rely on greenhorns like us

Just a quick point on supply and demand.
Scenario 1: The CC charge £20. The campsite is fully booked. Ergo - the price is right. Result - next year the price stays at £20 or possibly slightly more.
Scenario 2: The CC charge £25. The campsite is deserted. Ergo - the price is too high. Result - Next year the price drops to £20 or slightly less.
I agree that a lot of people don't want entertainment, electricity etc but the marquee was absolutely packed on the nights we were there (on Tuesday and Wednesday) so, obviously a lot of people DO want to see an Elvis impersonator after a day spent looking at expensive motorhomes. I don't happen to be one of them but I realise that the cost of entertainment etc is going to be included in the costs of the pitch and that whether I attend or not is my choice.
The organisers doubtless think that anyone with £40,000+ to spend on a motorhome isn't going to be too concerned about paying £20 a night for a pitch to park it - and it seems they're right in many cases.
If enough people here feel strongly enough about this why not organise a MHF campsite at the show next year. Just ring the NEC and enquire how much they want for the use of a car-park. No electricity, no Elvis. Mind you, I have just read a thread that says we (MHF) are organising electricity for our pitches at Shepton Mallet in January and the price for a pitch with hook-up is.........surprisingly close to the "rip-off price" at the NEC. If I get out the rhinestone jumpsuit and shades and we hire a marquee we could re-create the entire NEC experience.
