I had RAC cover in the UK as they were the only organisation to accept motorhomes of any size on the recovery service. I won't bother over here as there is a privately owned service that is inexpensive and efficient, according to the locals. Very Happy
However..... considering spares, I do what is trendily called a risk assessment, aka common sense. How old is the m/h, how often is it serviced (and do I think it is done properly) how many miles do I do, then as far as parts go, how likely is it to fail unexpectedly and if it does, would it put me off the road or simply restrict me to daylight driving for example? Shocked
Anything that seems to be critical is goes to the top of the check list when it is serviced, or looked at in between. Cool
I carry a toolkit, spare fuses and bulbs and elephant tape on the basis that if it needs more than that, I can't fix it anyway! Confused
A charged up mobile phone and the number of a breakdown service is probably the most useful piece of kit, other than following the "prevention is better than cure" philosophy. Very Happy

(Befriending a competent engineer has its advantages too Laughing )

hi, only carry a spare set of bulbs for when we are abroad,have driven light vans (transits/vw transporter)for 12 hours a day for at least 25 years and never had a breakdown where a spare was needed except a tyre and at work these are not fitted to the van so you have to sit and wait for repair, only broke down twice abroad once when the exhaust blew apart due to a faulty distributer cap,and then the second time it was the cap itself, so i guess a spare cap would have been handy.

Unless you know that your van has a particular tendency to destroy a particular part, it is almost impossible to specify what spares to carry.

Apart from fuses & lamps, I reckon it is more important to carry a practical toolkit plus a good selection of repair items, such as Gaffer tape; Insulating tape; Pipe clips; Elec. connecting blocks; String; Wire (insulated); Thread tape; WD40, and a good selection of Nuts, Bolts and Washers.

At least then you have a chance of carrying out a temp. repair!

Good advice there from RobMD, i carry a similar tool/spares kit... Also mentioned;

A known fault on sevel vans (3 times for us!) is the turbo pipe parting company with its housing due to a faulty single use hoseclip which is unuseable once it's failed, rendering the vehicle with little or no power. See this previous post for further info;

We now have a 2.2hdi peugeot and this has the same single use throw away hoseclips, so we carry a few suitably sized replacements in the toolkit just in case. This will save calling out the breakdown firm and long delays if it happens again.

The only other piece of kit we carry is a strong tow rope (handy for when you get stuck on boggy CL's!) and a folding shovel.

Everything including the proverbial sink.
Any repair I can handle roadside, I carry spares for.
(once a cyl head gasket roadside in Paris).
And of course breakdown cover!!
