Have just moved into a lovely little park home after full-timing for a while and no longer need my old Auto-trail Apache - and I've very little room to park it here anyway!
So I'm looking to buy a smaller campervan and would love some advice.

It's very hilly around here so I need something that can cope with steep hills and narrow country lanes.

It will be my only vehicle so I don't want anything too big. Maybe around the size of a SWB transit?

Must have PAS or at least light steering as I have a problem with my arm joints/muscles

Must have a loo, but a shower is not vital

Want a hi-top or possibly one with a roof I can raise

Only needs to be 1 or 2 berth, but not one of those tiny roma-home jobbies - I've still got a large dog and we'll be using it for camping for weeks at a time.

Preferably diesel. Manual or automatic.

Looking to spend around £10-12k give or take a bit - does all that sound plausible?

There's a motorhome place in Helston (Cornwall) I'm thinking of going to in a week or so, but if anyone knows of any others in Cornwall or this side of Devon I'd go there too.

Or I'm happy to buy privately if I can take someone with me to check on the mechanical side Confused

It will be lovely to get something soon as my arms have got much worse over the last few months living in and driving my Apache, and I'm not able to get out that much because it's just too big and cumbersome for me now Boo hoo!

Any advice or suggestions?

Welcome back, Denise. Perhaps in due course you will relay your fulltiming experiences.

Not sure whether your 10-12k incuded or excluded p/ex.

The Romahome Dimension must have been out around 2 years now, so you may come across something 2nd hand.

You might try Roy Wood Transits to see what might be possible within your price limit.

You could try an Autosleeper Flair MWB Transit no shower, portapotti toilet ideal for two and plenty about within your range

hi denise. i'm going the other way ( i think i could have phrased that better )
changing from a toyota lwb rising roof to a coachbuilt.
bought the van new in 1998 in belgium. converted by devon motorhomes in co. durham ( sometimes i think this country is upside down )
the layout is the 'rio grande' but with the rising roof of the 'sunrise' instead of a hi-top

2.4 turbo diesel, lhd, air con, power steering, eberspacher diesel fuelled hydronic dw4 water and space heater, thetford bench style cassette toilet, inboard water tank, 2 burner hob & grill, passenger seat swivels, external silver screens, witter towbar and cycle carrier, 2 camping gaz cylinders, just over 60000 miles, mot til sept 2005, tax runs out at the end of the month. light footed use - 30mpg heavy footed use 24mpg.

it's the best vehicle i have owned. in 6 years it has not had a single fault. the only replacements have been tyres and batteries etc.

collect new van 2 weeks today so she's got to go soon. asking price £9,750. currently on a personal number plate M10MUF ( that's for me to know and you to find out ) will be on 'R' plate when sold.

denise or anyone else interested let me know if you want to see it (i'm not doing very well with my syntax am i ). will take it anywhere in uk for a demo - any excuse for a jolly.

persons of a nervous disposition need not apply i.e. you must be prepared to see a grown man cry if you buy it.

Hi Denise

The SWB Tranny sounds OK

There are several firms who will convert one for you

Puzzled about the dog !
Does it tow the van?
Or provide a warm water bottle function in cold weather??

Thanks for the advice and links, will have a look at them now Smile

Smifee, your van sounds great but I don't think I'd like a left hand drive.

And my dog? He probably could tow the van he's so strong! But mostly he's a hot water bottle dog Cool
