I have noticed a few threads asking how to align these manual dishes. Here is how I do it!

I have a finder in line which squeals when on signal, has to be adjusted for threshold.
To align it I use a boat hand bearing compass to take the heading of the motovan when some distance from it. There is so much metal in them that this can not be done when inside.
I align the ring to this bearing. I actually have a pencil mark on the ceiling which was put in the correct position when properly aligned, This compensates for errors in the dish arm etc.
I have a printout of azimuth and elevation for many places in Europe and look up the azimuth and elevation for the nearest place.
I then put the dish to these figures.
30% of the time I have got the satellite and only need fine tweaking.
Other times it takes a minute or so.
On bad occasions, tree in the way, it can take longer.
In practice I can often beat my friends Oyster!

However, we are changing to a Carthago Chi i47 which has an Oyster fitted!
